Second child for Roslyn Robinson and the first of 10 children for Alphous McLean, older of her twin
brother Leonard McLean. Doris was a trained Dressmaker and the only person in the district to
own her own sewing machine. Yes, she was busy, hence the name Ms Chichi (busy bird). Doris
soon migrated to Canada in 1968, and life got more busy.
Marriage and Family
Doris married young but he died a few years later of pneumonia. She later married Leonard
Litherland, whom she knew from grade school. This union produced 3 children,4
grandchildren,7 great-grandchildren. She later divorced Leonard. She is now called by the rest of the
family because the first four grandchildren of Roslyn are calling her anty. Even her four children
call her Anty. Anty continued to earn a living in the restaurant and factory industries.
Doris retired early because she developed a problem with her feet. This is when she decided to
spend the winter months in Jamaica. Every October to March was spent in the sun. Then came
spring, this is when all is alive in Canada again. Doris' last time in Jamaica was in 2019, covid
was the big thing but Anty was not even fully understanding why we had to wear a mask; early
dementia was here. Anty loved her family, one of her favourite sayings is we only need our family, and only Jesus knows. One of her favourite scriptures is Isaiah 40:31. But those who trust in the lord will
find new strength. They will soar with wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, and they will
walk and not faint.
Anty loved her family, which included her siblings and children(nieces and nephews. As children
growing up in Jamaica, we were known as barrel children. Of course, we all couldn't wait for the
holidays for the foreign things; everything came from Canada.
She devoted her life to her children and mother, Roslyn Robinson who was instrumental in the
rearing of Anty's children. Left to cherish her memories are her four children 4 grandchildren and
6 great grand, Hugh, Lorraine married to Dexter, Barrington married to Ann, Ruth, Paulette, Anthony
Kayla/Raynan,Khadejah/Ronell, Kasiyah, Zedrew, Zayden, Re-nyah, Zaria, grace, Zynia, Samuel.
