With heavy hearts, we remember the life of Elliott Peatquoam Jonnie, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 42.
Known as Peatqouam (named by his grandfather), he was the beloved son of Curtis Shingoose (Goose) of Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation and Melody Jonnie (nee Elliott) of Cape Croker (Anishinaabe) First Nation, born in Winnipeg, MB. He is survived by his daughter Brianna Jonnie, forever in his heart.
Peat was predeceased by his maternal Great-grandparents Roger and Pearline (Chegahno) Elliott, Grandparents Melvin Elliott and Mildred Solomon, his Uncles Meredith (Dovie) Elliott and Martin (Marty) Elliott, and his cousin Jesse Manning. He was survived by his Uncles Crawford Kahn, Roger Elliott, and Kennith Elliott, and cousins Gloria Weldrick, Jasmine and Janine Manning.
Peat was also predeceased by his paternal Great-great grandparents John and Mary Jonnie (Littlejohn), Great-grandparents Cliff and Grace Hage (Jonnie), his sister Joelle Jonnie and his brother Micha Jonnie.
He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Nahanni Shingoose (Tanya Leary) and Ahzbek (Elijah) Jonnie, and his nieces and nephews Gerald, Michael, Stephanie, Sage, Ziibii, Elijah, Everett and Meliza, as well as his great nieces and nephews.
Peatquoam was a cherished nephew to Clay (Cathy) Hage and Tannis (Steve) Wichmann, and to cousins Audra Anderson, Linsey Hage, Thomas Lerner, Joe Wichmann, David S. Wichmann, Darcy Nemback, and Jeremy Nemback. Cape Croker and Roseau River were important parts of his journey. These communities will be honoured as the final resting places for his ashes.
Though his time with us was too short, Peat’s life leaves a lasting place in the hearts of his family, loved ones and all who knew him. His passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express. The memories of his life and the bonds he shared with those around him will continue to be held close and cherished.
During this difficult time, may his family and loved ones find comfort in one another, strength in their connections and peace in the memories they hold dear. May Peat’s spirit be at rest and may his memory continue to live on through his family and the communities connected to his life. His contagious Jonnie laugh will echo in our memories and hearts forever.
Forever remembered and never forgotten.
Rest peacefully and in power, Peat.
Give everyone a hug from us.
Gone from our sight, but forever remembered
in the hearts of those who loved you.
Visitation will be held at Giffen-Mack & Trull Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON, M4C1L3, CA, on November 2, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00 pm.
