Uncle Ernesto was a special man. He exemplified kindness, patience, generosity and strength in his daily life. As a young girl growing up next door with my family, the kids eagerly awaited his return home from the pool hall. He treated everyone as one of his and there was often Italian ice cream or a couple of bucks to be had by all. I will never forget waiting in the driveway for him. He was unassuming and compassionate, never one to seek accolades even when they were well deserved. I am proud to have called him uncle. Godspeed Uncle Ernesto.

Growing up I loved hearing all the stories about Zio Ernesto’s family, and my dad in the bushes of British Columbia, and their early days in Toronto. I will miss seeing my father FaceTime his older brother whenever I’d go visit. The last conversation they had, my dad asked Zio Ernesto if he remembered some of the fun things they did in British Columbia. He managed to get Zio Ernesto reminiscing and laughing about the good times they had. Their conversations would always end in the same way, two brothers, one 96, and the other 82, blowing many kisses, saying I Love you, and saying goodbye. The bond they shared was inspiring.

My deepest condolences to Lucy, Tony, Vince, Georgina, Anna and your families.

Rest In Peace Zio Ernesto, you left a great impression on so many people, and you will be dearly missed.

Dearest Nonno,

My first memory of you was of you peeling green grapes, cutting them in half, picking out the seeds and feeding them to me. This memory exemplifies your love, patience and caring for all your family. I have so many memories of you; walking us to the corner store for candy, taking us to the fair, pulling peanuts out of lampposts, ‘working’ with you in your garden, always happy to spend time with us, always willing to have fun. Spending Sundays at your house with my cousins and family is the greatest gift you could have given us. To see you light up whenever a child or baby entered the room, was always beautiful, just as you did when you met each of your great-grandchildren. As Carly said, you were the heart of our family. To say you will be missed is an understatement, your absence is palpable. But we will carry you in our hearts, always.
Ti amo

Georgina, Anna, Lucie, Tony, Vince and families. We are saddened to hear this very sad news. He was a great man and was so glad to call him my Compare. Remembering so many happy memories we shared together in British Columbia, unfortunately lost touch after your move to Toronto. I remember my Mom sharing many happy thoughts of their times in B.C. with your Mom and Dad. Hope someday to see you all again and reminisce about happier times. I hope they are all once again together enjoying great times.
Miss you All,
Luisa Rapanotti-Ing
