It is with great sadness to announce the death of Esther Ann Leahey at the age of ninety-three on Sunday November 1, 2015, fittingly on All Saints Day. She was a humble servant of God who was an amazing person who touched so many lives with her love, kindness, generosity, and hospitality. Her service and dedication to others was why she is beloved by so many people. She will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her husband, Francis Gerard. She will be greatly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Suzanne. She was an amazing mother. Esther had a close and loving relationship with her granddaughters, Heather and Michelle, who brought her so much joy.
Esther will also be greatly missed by her remaining siblings, sisters’ Edna and Ruth, and brothers’ Frank and Roland and well as her sisters-in-law, Margaret and Ann and brother-in-law, George, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was fond of them all and with whom she had lasting friendships. They were all very supportive over the years and especially in the last few months
Special thanks to the Nova Scotia Leaheys’ and their families. First, Stephen and Dennice Leahey and their children Douglas and Adrienne (spouse Chris and step-daughter Alex), and their grandchildren, Griffen, Spencer and Mary Kathleen. Secondly, Douglas and Maureen Leahey. Stephen and Douglas were Esther’s stepchildren and along with respective spouses, Dennice and Maureen, had a loving friendship for over fifty years. Their love, friendship, and support toward Esther over the years has been amazing.
Thanks to all her friends at St Luke’s Anglican Church for their friendship over the years and their prayers, especially during the last few months.
Esther had many wonderful friends and neighbours. Thank you for all your support and friendship. Special mention to Thelma, Margo, Murray and family, Julie, Madeline and Ruth, Evelyn, Kay in Dartmouth Nova Scotia
Special thanks to her caregivers who made it possible for her to spend her remaining days in her home. Of course we have to mention her wonderful caregiver, Joy, who was so good to Esther. She was not only a caregiver to Esther, but a friend as well. While Joy took care of Esther the majority of the time, her other caregivers, Vanessa and Charmaine and Bernalissa (from the CCAC) were equally as wonderful. Also, a special mention to Marieta who took care of Esther earlier in 2015.
Thanks to the staff at the Temmy Letner Centre and the CCAC especially the nurses, Sherry and Helen, who came every day and took great care of Esther. Thanks also to Dr Khosnood and to all the medical staff at Sunnybrook and the Toronto East General. Thanks to Kim Logan and Thandi Briggs at the CCAC who were so helpful and supportive to Esther.
Visitation at Giffen and Mack on Friday from 2-4 to 7-9 with a funeral service at St Lukes Anglican on Sta at 10:00 and internment at Pine Hill. A reception will follow the internment at St Luke’s. Any donations can be made to St Luke’s Anglican Church and the Toronto East General Hospital.
We were lucky to have Esther in our lives. She left a wonderful legacy. She is now with God
