Fr. Hurley was a major influence in my life as a young boy and in my early years. He was a large part of my life from the time I was a child. I have only now heard of his passing and truly I am sad. At St. Mary's in the time before his final vows he was known to everyone as "J.J." If we did not attend other classes during the day we made the effort to get to JJ's class. I know other priests and teachers were admired as well but no one was admired more. He taught me History and English in class, but taught me Class and Respect in History and English. I wish I could have told him how much he influenced the better parts of my life. May God hold him in the Palm of His Hand and may he rest in the Peace of Christ.

John was a wonderful human being.I knew John from high school in Stratford. He went to school with my brother and they became great friends.John would call all our family faithfully every Xmas to see how we were and catch up on what he had been doing. To me, he was known as " Squirrley"- a name that stuck with him all these years. The world has lost a truly special man- kind, funny and irreplaceable.
Thank you John for your friendship.

I will always remember Fr. Jack. He was my parish priest at St. Mary's Parish in Hamilton, Ontario. I always looked forward to his homilies. They were very inspirational. I lost my husband in 2004 and he was an incredible support system for me. Recently, I found a hand written note from Fr. Jack that he wrote to me after my husband's passing. I will cherish it forever. It made an incredibly unbearable situation a little easier.
Eternal rest grant to Fr. Jack and may he rest in peace.
Thank you Fr.Jack for all you did for me.

Although he was Father John or Father Jack to many, to me he was Uncle John. His presence will be missed in our family. As my father’s older brother, we could always count on his calls to check in on holidays, staying up to date on all the family news. John loved to talk football, an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, and was the guy you definitely wanted on your Trivial Pursuit team. He loved to read and run in his younger days. He lived a life of service and his journey made an impact on many lives. We’d like to thank everyone that volunteered to drive him in the final years, on his visits to London and Stratford. They meant a lot to him and us. Rest In Peace Uncle John.

So very sorry to hear of Father Hurley’s passing. My husband and I will always have a special fondness for him as he officiated at our wedding. He was a very nice man.
