On the evening of October 29th at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Florence Bartlett passed away just five months short of her 100th birthday. Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond in 2002. Florence leaves behind three loving daughters, Carole (Bill), Brenda (Wayne), and Elaine (John), as well as granddaughters, Debbie (Rory) and Sarah (Darcy). The granddaughters were followed by more girls, great-granddaughters Caitlyn, Carley, Addison, and Harper, the youngest whose middle name Florence was given as a tribute to her great-grandmother. Beyond all else, Florence was devoted to her husband and family. She was not only dedicated to family but also a loving friend who put others before herself. She had a youthful spirit and was quick to laugh, listen and offer support to all. She loved to reminisce about her early years growing up in London, England. Her husband, Ray, introduced her to camping life which she loved. They made many weekend trips to various Ontario parks but especially enjoyed spending time camping beside the ocean in Myrtle Beach where they made many lifelong friends. When at home, Florence enjoyed baking, reading, knitting, and various other crafts. At the age of 90, Florence decided her life was interesting enough that she could write her memoirs and produced a 400-page book detailing the various chapters in her life. She spent her last four years at Alexander Muir Retirement Residence in Newmarket where she appreciated the care she received from the dedicated staff members who made her feel like family. Her last week was spent in palliative care ward at Southlake where the wonderful staff diligently cared for her. Florence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
