He is survived by his wife, Maria, daughters Diana and Eden (née Anna Maria), son-in-law Eric Brazier and daughter-in-law Shannon Wilkinson.
He was born in 1931 on the Island of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal. It was there that Frank met his first wife, Fernanda, and they immigrated to Canada in 1957. Starting as an agricultural worker near Windsor, Frank’s career took him from being a groundskeeper for the Ontario Jockey Club to eventually a foreman at the Goodyear Tire factory in Mimico. Frank and Fernanda built a life for themselves on Manning Ave. in Toronto’s Little Portugal. Sadly Fernanda passed away in 1977 after a battle with cancer. Shortly thereafter Frank moved with his daughters to New Bedford, Massachusetts to be closer to family. While living there Frank was blessed to find love again with Maria and they married in 1979.
Frank’s passions were family, travel and food–especially seafood. His time in Massachusetts instilled in him a deep love of lobster–which became a staple food of any celebratory gathering. He loved to travel and managed to do so up until the end. His travels with family took him from Nova Scotia to Texas, P.E.I. back to Portugal and many points in-between. Yet no matter where in the world he was, Frank’s favourite ‘tourist attraction’ was always the local grocery store.
Jovial and full of life, Frank loved nothing better than telling jokes and being the life of the party. He was always the first to put on a silly hat or lampshade. In such situations a smile never left his face and his enjoyment was infectious.
The funeral will be held at Jerrett Funeral Homes - Scarborough Chapel on Thursday March 27 at noon. Visitation beforehand starting at 10am. All friends and family are welcome. Flowers or donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation https://donate.sunnybrook.ca in Frank’s memory are appreciated.
