We had noticed Fred's absence on the street, but were only recently made aware of his passing. We will certainly miss seeing him, and chatting with him about the birds, clearly something he quite enjoyed.

It was very sad to hear that Fred Williams passed away.  He was a true gentleman and a quiet man.  I have many fond memories of him as does my husband.  He will be missed.

I will certainly miss talking with Fred, as we traveled a great deal together when we did fire extinguisher testing at Gravenhurst and various extinguisher clients.  He was a unique individual and both my wife and I liked him.  He will be missed.

One of Fred's duties was the coordination of numerous work orders that were delivered to his office.  He respected the order in which he received them.  I respected him for that.  If a priority was requested, he would try to accommodate that request.  He also coordinated several areas having a wide range of technical expertise.  The  position was challenging and provided variety.  He carried the task well.

I too had the pleasure of working with Fred; in fact he hired me, twice! I also had the opportunity to spend an hour or 2 with him during his last visit to the lab for our 90th anniversary. He was dedicated and a real believer in ULC's mission, he was instrumental in getting us to where we are today.

I knew Fred for a relatively short period of time, but in the 7 years that he and I were next-door neighbors, I knew him to be a patient and kind man, quick to smile and share a little joke, and who was always so generous with his time.  He was an avid reader with a multitude of interests, and I grew accustomed to seeing the light burning in the front window after supper every evening, where he always sat to read and listen to the radio.  
Fred loved to hunt and fish, and was a nature lover generally, but I will remember him mostly for his love of birds. It was something that he and I had in common, and I smile as I remember him calling out his kitchen window to me when he'd see me on my back patio, to tell me about a special bird he'd seen on his daily hike, so I'd know to watch for that bird too and hopefully get to see it.  
I'll miss those easy chats we had, over the years, his ever-ready advice about little repairs around the house, and the smile and a wave that we'd exchange across the driveway while shoveling snow, or scurrying in from our cars. I already miss seeing the light in the front window every evening, for the house is now still and dark. So long, Fred ... rest in peace.

I am sure that like many others of the ULC staff of my era, it is very difficult to believe that Freddy is no longer around. I understand that he attended a function at the Lab fairly recently, knowing Freddy I would suspect that he had an inkling that something was pending. Freddy and I did all of the extinguisher fire and burglary equipment,eg safes, deposit boxes, etc testing etc together and he was very skilled in both areas, it was a pleasure to work with him. He shall be very much missed.

My condolences to Fred's extended family.  I worked with Fred at ULC for 13 years until I left in 1980.  I respected Fred for his strong personal qualities, work ethic,loyalty to those he worked with, integrity and sense of humour.

I am so sorry to hear of Fred's passing.  As a former employee of Fred's, I know he was well respected here at ULC and was a great inspirer who was patient and kind.
My thoughts are with his family at this time.
