Gary William Kraft

December 18, 1949April 5, 2021

On Monday, April 5, 2021, after a long illness Gary Wm. Kraft passed away at his home in Toronto with his partner, Dennis McKibbin, at his side. He was in his 72nd year. Gary is survived by his sister Kathy (John) Theisz. He was predeceased by his mother Betty (nee Holt), his father William Kraft, and his sister Karen (John) Bacon. Gary had a rewarding career as a teacher with the Waterloo Regional School Board for 31 years. He was assisted by Peggy Martin, Donna Stevens and Earla Querengesser. The children in his class were physically fragile and their lives were made significantly happier and safer because of the positive atmosphere he created for them. As a young teen, Gary lived in the home of his Aunt Marian and Uncle Cyril Davis. Their four children Rick, Lynn, Cindy and Patti were like siblings to Gary. He was ever thankful for the safety and love he was given in their home. Gary also had a special bond with his Aunt Ada Holt. Gary and Dennis travelled the world and had a wonderful life together for 38 years. A special thanks to Wendy Abbott, Yul Doo, Carol Martin, Doreen Henderson and Cindy Davis for all the support and help they gave to Gary during his illness. There are few people in the world who have that special gift and ability to truly connect with people. Gary was one of them. He was kind, loving, generous and genuine. If you were fortunate to have been loved by Gary you knew what unconditional love felt like. Gary’s cheerfulness and kindness will be missed by all who knew him. Due to Covid restrictions, a celebration of life will be planned for a later date. Memorial donations may be made directly to Lupus Canada @

I miss you my dear, dear friend.

We had a wonderful, fun filled experience in our lives together. You were a very kind, loving and sweet man.

So O.K. you beat my at Yahtzee and you would bring wonderful dessert treats and would so joyfully deal with my home made whatever. Bless your heart.

Yourself and Dennis were always such great hosts for coffee, lunch, dinners and Christmas parties.

I so enjoyed meeting your mom, Betty and your sisters Kathy and Karen. We always had so much fun when they came into Toronto at Java Jives.

I know you will share all of your love, kindness and caring in heaven.

Love you and miss you so much.

I had the great privilege of having Gary as a friend and colleague when we both taught congregated classes for developmentally challenged children for the Waterloo Region District School Board. His great compassion for his students, as well as his willingness to advocate for them, was remarkable. I learned a great deal from him.
My sincere condolences, Dennis, and to the rest of Gary's family.

I appreciated the opportunity to be his friend and colleague while we worked together and for some years after. I have many wonderful memories.

My condolences to Gary’s family. I was fortunate enough to have my daughter, Amanda, taught by Gary, Peggy, Donna and Earla, the best Special Education Team there was. Gary knew just how to handle each child and disability without being judgemental. He loved each child unconditionally and lead by example. I’ve thought about him a lot over the years and have missed his smiling face. Rest In Peace Gary.

My heartfelt condolences to Dennis and family. Gary was the first teacher I worked with and in that time I learned so much from him and about him. He was a kindhearted man, and an advocate for special needs students. Listening to him and his longtime work partner, Peggy, was pure entertainment! Thanks for the many laughs Gary, you will be dearly missed!

Not often does a couple share the same Best Friend. Gary Kraft was the exception. We literally grew up together so many years ago. He positively impacted our lives individually and as a couple.
Gary, we know we were not the only lives you enriched over your time here on earth.
Thank you for making our lives richer. You will live on in our hearts forever.
