Giovanna was born in Boiano, Campobasso, Italy in 1935, to Mariano and Giovannina. Sadly, her mother died within two days of the birth of Giovanna and her twin brother Antonio.
Giovanna came to Canada in 1959, and married Antonio D’Alessandro in Toronto in 1960. They ultimately made their home in Etobicoke in 1967. Giovanna was a loving mother and nonna, and proud homemaker. She was a devout member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church for many years.
Every year, Giovanna started her impressive garden from seed, lovingly tending her vegetables and creating her preserves in the fall. She was always generous in sharing the results of her hard work with friends, neighbours and family members.
Giovanna is lovingly remembered by her son John D’Alessandro and his wife Robin, her daughter Linda Giancola and her husband Bruno, grandchildren Robert D’Alessandro, Erica Giancola and Alex Giancola, and step-grandchildren Leah Jensen and Adrian Jensen, as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws, both near and far.
She is predeceased by her husband Antonio D’Alessandro, brothers Michele, Carmine, Pietro and Antonio, and sister Addolorata.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 31st, from 4 to 8pm at the Delmoro Funeral Home, 61 Beverly Hills, Toronto. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 1st at 9:30am at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 1415 Royal York Road, Etobicoke, followed by entombment at Glendale Memorial Gardens, 1810 Albion Road, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in memory of Giovanna can be made to The Canadian Liver Foundation or Canadian Blood Services.
