I first Met harold on the 6th of November 2017 when I started my job in whistler. I had the lucky chance to work with him over his last 6 months. 

I can specifically remember when he said "I like to adventure", I replied that "I'm hanging out with him". Later when we both had started working together he said that he had recommended me for the job. 
Harold always had great faith in me and his open compassion for others was one of his amazing traits. 
He tried to get me to the gym to little avail we managed only a few times, despite his best efforts. 

We ended up hanging out alot over the winter and he saw many sides of me as I did of him. 

We both ended up doing our avalanche courses so that we could do DOA by the end of the season together but never got the right day. 



I worked with Harold in 2000. My memory of him is that he was always fun loving, positive and willing to help. It deeply saddens me to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathies to his family. 

I have so many memories and so much love for Harold, I will miss him dearly. 
What I will miss mostly is his laugh and  his smile.  He was always laughing and smiling,  Always making everyone around him laugh. Harold cared so much about everyone he knew and he wanted to take care of everyone he came into contact with, he was such a loving soul. 
Growing up with him was a lot of fun because he loved life and wanted to discover the answer to everything. As a child Harold would ask so many questions, later he would tell amazingly funny stories and jokes. Sometimes I thought he should be a comedian, then he would cook a dish and it was always yummy (probably because he cooked with love), maybe he should have been a chef. Regardless of what Harold did he would always excell and I am very proud to have had  him as a cousin. He has left his mark in this world for sure by touching so may different lives. 
Harold, I know it’s not goodbye, for now it’s only  see you later. I do feel better knowing you are with many loved ones too.  Love you. ❤️ xoxo 

Harold was very kind to me when I returned to work after a long absence. He knew, without me really telling him that I was struggling with life and returning to work.  He made a point of coming by my desk each day to chat and share a joke.  I later realized that this was just his way of checking in with me everyday to make sure I was ok.

I have thought about those days many times since and have always appreciated that he cared.  Harold was smart and funny and I marveled at how he knew just about everything.   Harold spoke French fluently often fooling people into thinking he was native speaker, he fixed my computer several times when IT was stumped, and took up healthy eating and weight lifting like a pro in a few short months.  There was literally nothing that he could not do when he set his mind to it.  

Harold, I will be forever grateful for the kindness you showed me when I needed it the most.  I'm so glad that you got to live your dreams in BC.  It's amazing the impact someone can have on your life and not know it.  Thank you Harold, I'll think of you each time I hit the slopes.

Although we lost touch with each other Harold, I always wondered how you were doing and where life had taken you. You taught me so much about diet and exercise and you were the best trainer/training partner Ive ever had. Not to mention the strongest. I'm sure stripping all the weight only to put it back on after my set really would get annoying,  but you didn't care. You were always so positive and were always pushing me to my max and laughing at my pain. Hearing of your passing really hurts. My deepest condolences to all of Harlods family and friends. Miss you man. 

So sad to hear about the loss of an awesome human Harold Phillips. The most unique individual always laughing and cracking jokes. You will be missed friend.


We hiked the S2S and the whole time I was thinking of you and our hike up Habrick. I started to send you a message but looks like you took a hike of your own. You were an amazing friend. I was informed about the loss of a friend this morning. Harold Phillips, a wonderful human, truly one of a kind. You'll be missed so much by everyone who has had the pleasure of meeting you. Even though I've been across the pond a while, it hasn't changed me thinking about you and our experiences together. From monkeying around, climbing mountains, you taking me on crazy runs on the mountain, going for a drink or just meeting up for lunch. I'll never forget you. I miss the joy you spread, the songs you had reworked and sang to nettle me, sharing a rum&coke with you, heading out for many mountain adventures and feasts with you or yelling in Arnie accent at each other..
Thank you "Big H" for being there when my grandfather died, for sharing food after our gym sessions, for hiking, biking and skiing to places with me I would not have found myself. You filled my year abroad with so many wonderful memories.. You made our shared flat a home back then in 2013/14.
Thank you for being an actual friend to this annoying little german I used to be. You used to say, "Germans can’t whisper!“ Buddy you should hear me now - I’m speechless.
Today I reminisce not only in pain. I also gratefully cheer to the memories. I remember all the moments we had together and lessons you taught me when you "canadianized" me - as you called it. One of which being the "One-thing-a-day-rule" that taught me to not always efficiently overfill my schedule
but enjoy each and every little thing more. You always seemed to never worry but laugh often. I’m so glad i got to visit you again last summer. You inspired me and left some marks on me that will remain.
Therefore a part of the Harold spirit will live on in all the people that got to know you.

In Toronto, 1994, I had the chance to meet a gifted man with an old soul. My ex boyfriend told me his best friends name was Harold (I called him Harry). We were in the backyard playing Trivial Pursuit when Harry mentioned he gave Tutor and Weight Training lessons!
I remember when Harry first brought me to his home. He showed me his vegetable garden and introduced me to his family who he loved so much. I enjoyed meeting his family and talking to them on his front porch and then going to have Greek food down the street!
Although Harry was an honour student with a major in History, he knew I enjoyed Philosophy, so he would ask me - If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?
We became roommates in Kitchener, Waterloo where Harold and Chris went to Laurier University. He was so organized with all of his belongings, his Chicken Parmesan was to die for and he killed us at the game of Risk!
Harry helped raise our 2 dogs. A Rotweiller named Crew and a Staffordshire Terrier named Shy. He would give them bear hugs, treats, walks in the park and swimming lessons! We continued to be roommates in Meadowvale, Mississauga with Chris and my brother Dwayne. Dwayne introduced him to motorcycles and Harry was his gym buddy.  Listening to him cheerfully whistle while he works was priceless. He definitely was a computer whiz. At last, in 2004, we were roommates in Barrie, this is where Harold learned how to ski at Blue  Mountain, one of his favourite places. At that time I was working at a book store and one of my favourite things to do was discussing books with Harry. I wish I could hear his opinion on the last history book I read!
Harry you have fallen and we were all here to hear it and you made a big sound. Harold your legacy will always be imprinted on those who knew you.  We will never forget you. I am glad we were friends for many years and I am happy you lived your dream of Extreme Skiing! RIP Harold Phillips

So sad to hear about Harold Phillips passing. I will never forget our laughs, and never ending jokes
about how annoying Whistler tourists can be. You always had such enthusiasm and a great love for life
in the mountains. Rest easy buddy.

When I was a kid I would spend a number of afternoon's at his and Mary's house when Vanessa used to babysit me. He was always there and always cracked a joke to make everyone laugh. Heather and I would go and still visit every now and again and he was still the same old Harold, funny, relaxed and just a fun person to talk to. 

Lived one house down from Harold growing up in East York.
I remember many fun times in their pool....got pretty noisy with all the kids, probably drove the neighbours beteeen us crazy 😉

Moved north to Sudbury in 1992 and we lost touch but reconnected through Facebook. The photos are from 1982 when Harold and I would've been 8 and the photo was recreated in 2013 when we had a "Westwood Ave.  reunion" and had some great laughs as we all shared memories of growing up.

Growing up with Harold was having the big brother I never had.  I will never forget him bribing me to go with karate with him by buying me a bag of chips, sneaking me gummy bears when he worked at Blair Court and torturing me with threats of "Mr. Minicle" pinches.  
What I remember most about Harold is his love of life and how he was always up for adventures and trips.  Whether it was the train seats that turned around, the hail storm in Parry Sound, the "pee" incident in Fenelon Falls or him buying me .5% beer at a 7-11 when he and I went skiing together in Blue Mountain, his laughter and shoulder shake is one of the soundtracks of my life.  When he came into a room, smiling and laughter soon followed.  I am so proud of the way that he lived his life, and though it was much too short, thank goodness he had the courage to "live to ski" and enjoy life to the fullest.  Love you and miss you always.  Every time I'm on a ski hill and a puff of perfect white powder snow hits me in the face, I will think of you.
