Dawn was my very first lecturer at U of T.  It was the fall of 1969 and I was in her early morning English 100 class.  She had a playful intellect and an enchanting spirit.  The last time I saw her was March 15, 1975 in Vancouver when we drank scotch, talked about language being both lofty and limiting, and watched Nicholas pretend to be different dinosaurs on the carpet at our feet.  This morning I was about to google Dawn, and perhaps  ask her to be my Facebook friend, when I discovered the sad news.  We knew each other briefly, and so very long ago, but her kindness, humour and generosity have stayed with me until this day.
