

Helen Margaret Semmens was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Helen will be remembered as a very exceptional person. She was the daughter of Thomas Joseph Dunne and Katherine Marie Dunne (Anderson). Helen grew up in Dumascus Ontario - Family Farm. Helen was raised with 6 siblings. She had three older siblings George, Julia, and James and 3 younger siblings John, Katharyn, and Thomas. Helen was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years. On May 1, 1954 Helen exchanged wedding vows with William Robert Semmens at St. Patrick Catholic Church of Toronto, Ontario. Empathic and loyal, Helen was committed to making her new family happy. Helen worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Helen was blessed with 3 children, Catherine, Robert, and Patricia. Another blessing for Helen was the gift of 4 grandchildren, Krista, Elena, Jamie and Christina. Fortunately, Helen enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Helen worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was Payroll Officer. She was employed for many years at Teperman and Sons and 6 years with Speedy Muffler King. Helen always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done. Helen enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were crafts. She loved to create and sew. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others. Helen was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was Sandy, part Chihuahua and part Toy Fox Terrier. They were best friends for 17 years. When Helen’s retirement finally arrived in 1991, she was well prepared. Even in retirement, Helen continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Helen was active in her new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered her. Helen passed away on May 3, 2009 at Humber River Regional Hospital - Finch Site. Her heart finally stopped and she was at peace. She is survived by her husband Bill, her three children Cathy, Rob and Patti and her 4 grandchildren Krista, Elena, Jamie and Christina: her brothers John and Tom and her sister Kathy. Services were held at St. Clare's Catholic Church. Helen was laid to rest in Beechwood Cemetery in Vaughn Ontario. Simply stated, Helen was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Helen leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Helen Margaret Semmens.
