Elgin was born in Stenen, Saskatchewan on December 31, 1925, the son of the late Anthony Wasylenchuk and Julia Dubchak, both of whom were born in Ukraine. He was predeceased by his siblings Veronica Dudiak and Olga Kmet. He is survived by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools for 75 years. He taught most of his career in St. Joseph College, Yorkton, Saskatchewan and also in Montreal, De la Salle "Oaklands", Toronto, St. Vincent, West Indies and Vinnitsa, Ukraine. He spent much of his retirement years as a director of finance for schools, La Salle Manor and the District of Toronto.
Visitation will take place at Loretto Abbey from 3-5 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 20th. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the same chapel. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill.
