DEVLIN, James Joseph (Jim) - January 3, 1929 - April 6, 2014 Passed away peacefully after sharing in a family luncheon. He was a recent resident of The Dunfield Retirement Residence. He considered it a wonderful and caring place. He was predeceased by his wife Joan, with whom they had spent 60 happy years. Born and raised on a Jersey Dairy farm near Milton, Jim loved baseball and the guitar. He attended Teachers College, by 'shuffling' off to Buffalo, NY on weekends to earn his qualifications. He went from teaching in a "one room" schoolhouse to being the Head of Industrial Arts at St. Andrews Junior High, in North York. After 25 years, Jim retired as his first grandchild was about to be born. He was always active with golf in Kincardine, boating in Georgian Bay, curling at the Cricket Club. Most of all, he and Joan were always offering a helping hand to their children and grandchildren. Jim could fix almost anything. He will be deeply missed by his son, Tim (Carol), their children, Megan and Michael (Sandi too) and his daughter, Kate (Neil) and Neil's daughter Jessica. He is survived by his youngest brother, Henry and predeceased by brothers, Ken, Don and Grant. Jim's health had been declining in the past months, with cardiac, renal and cognitive issues. We are relieved that he didn't have to suffer further. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff at The Dunfield, for their expert care and watchful eyes. Dr. Ginny Griffin was also instrumental in choreographing his care and for trying to keep him away from his beloved "salt shaker". Lastly the medical staff at The Scarborough Hospital - Grace Division, are to be commended for all of their help, as well. A family celebration will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The Scarborough Hospital Foundation - Grace Division (3030 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough, ON M1W 3W3) or a charity of your choice.
