Joan Muriel Matsui

She was born to the late F. Earnest and Muriel Baker, Jan 17, 1944, in Halifax, NS. Joan did her undergrad at University of Toronto and earned a masters of English at University of Kent in Canterbury. She lived in Halifax, Ottawa, Harrogate UK, Metz France, Moncton, and Toronto.

She married William Hedge in 1966 and they lived in Toronto. She was widowed in 1968. In 1977 Joan married David Isao Matsui and they lived in East York.

Joan taught high school English, ESL, and special education.

Joan was active in her parish, the Church of the Resurrection. She was an associate with the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine and took part in many bible studies and women's breakfasts, and helped coordinate Scripture Union at her church. She enjoyed skiing, reading, walking, and camping, and loved dogs.

Joan was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John, and her first husband. Joan is survived by her sister, Patricia Lynn Dorling of Delta, BC, her husband, David Isao Matsui and her Daughter, Kyra Mariko Busbridge née Matsui of East York, ON. She is also survived by four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requesting that donations be made out to the Alzheimer Society.

The viewing will be on Saturday, Feb 7, 2 PM, and the funeral will be on Mon, Feb 9, 2 PM. Both will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 1100 Woodbine Ave, Toronto.
