Passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 with her family by her side in her 87th year. Cherished and beloved wife of the late Douglas Arthur Price. Loving mother of John (Dianne), Paula (Lynn Fisk) and the late David. Survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Price-Murray. Cherished grandmother of Megan (Andrew Kodarin), Adam, Gregory, Alison (Nick McClean), Deborah (John Lindsay) and Andrew. Great-grandfather of Chloe, Delilah, Abigail, Olivia and Lily. Loving daughter of the late John Montague and Edith Greer (nee Bennett).
Joan was blessed with having lived a very full and rich life. She spent many years devoted to raising her family before returning to the workplace as a Special Inquiries Officer with Immigration Canada where she was very much respected by her colleagues and appreciated by the clients. Joan shared 64 wonderful years with Doug, her adoring husband. Together they had a wonderfully active social life as members of the National Yacht Club where they spent their summers sailing on both the Folly and later the Achelois. Joan was also a member of the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club. As an avid bridge player she always looked forward to her duplicate games with dear friends at the club and her Swiss Pairs group. Joan also lived a committed and full spiritual life as an active member of St. Clements Anglican Church where she served on the Women’s Chancel Guild for many years. Always humble, Joan’s gifts of grace, creativity, care, and compassion where reflected over the years in both her career and any activity she undertook whether it was through her involvement in volunteering, gardening, or entertaining family and friends with her exceptional skills in gourmet cooking. Joan was an incredibly loyal and giving friend who always anticipated the needs of others and for whom nothing was ever too much for her to offer. Her smile was a truly remarkable gift that always lit up the room and brought joy to all who met her.
Her children are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful, loving and devoted mother. She leaves the family with many gifts - the greatest of which is love.
The family wishes to gratefully thank the staff at Living Assistance Services, in particular the compassionate and extraordinary care provided during the past year by her primary caregiver, Erlene Comia, along with the additional care provided in her final months by caregivers Evangeline Chavez and Judy Zapanta. In addition, the family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Jocelyn Charles of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Joan’s family physician for 20 years, who not only went above and beyond in providing exceptional and compassionate care for Joan over the year and in her final months at home, but who also provided incredible support to the family.
Friends may call at the TRULL "NORTH TORONTO" FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTRE (2704 Yonge Street, 5 blocks south of Lawrence Avenue) on Friday, August 17 from 1:00-3:00pm. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Clement's Anglican Church (Duplex and Briar Hill Ave.) on Saturday, August 18 at 11:00am.
