Kara Anita Pauline Ricard

September 23, 1977November 11, 2012

RICARD, Kara The world is a lesser place and heaven has a stronger spirt. Kara died early Sunday, November 11, 2012 at age 35. She had fought flu and then pneumonia for several days. Kara was a wonderful wife, momma, mother, daughter, sister, auntie, niece, cousin, grand, in-law. She embraced everyone from every definition of family, and was a great friend to so many. She is missed deeply, and forever and always. Kara was married in summer 2009 to the love of her life, Kelly, nee Wilk (and yes, "we had a great wedding!") She was the proudest momma to Ben since his birth in March 2011, mother to Adri Disman, devoted daughter of Mary Murphy and Rick Ricard, the best sister possible to Rick, Ryan, Quinn and Jenn, happy auntie to Ava and Ella, to any child who would let her, really. Kara’s big smile and bright eyes were always a joy to see, her love for life unmeasured. It was always great to see her lift Ben or any child so easily, to be held so closely, never wanting to let go. To hear her laugh was to hear the sound of joy. Kara fought to the end because she knew life was precious, and she had so much to live for. She was posting her hospital stay to Facebook on Saturday, sure it was just another weird thing in life. She always gave herself to everyone. (In passing she gave so others might live better; she would urge you to register to do the same.) Kara was a dedicated public servant, working for the city for many years at the island water plant (she would tell you it’s great drinking water -- have some in her honour.) The life of someone like Kara deserves to be cried over and laughed over, reflected on, remembered forever. Some of that will happen Friday, November 16th, gathering from 5-9 p.m. with service at 7 p.m., at Trull Funeral Home, 1111 Danforth Ave. at Greenwood. (Cremation has taken place.)

A year later and all those words and pictures take me back and it seems like no time at all since you died. I could ask the question how do I live without you but the truth is I have been, because I have to. My heart aches for you all the while but I am living. I love you and you are a part of me forever.

A sweet soul & gentle giant has left our world, creating a huge void where she once lived. Our dear friend, Kara (we loved to call her Karoleena) & Mel's work-mate's sudden passing on Remembrance Day was a devastating life event.
Unexpected at any age, but at the age of 35, unfathomable! It is unbelievable that this could happen in this era. It is even more incredulous to think that she's no longer here to share smiles, giggles & stories of Ben & the love of her life - Kelly, with us. The light of this world just got dimmer because the pure joy of Karoleena's spark & her passion for life is gone, but she will never be forgotten. Kara was limitless in her achievements and looked at life with unleashed imagination, allowing her and affording those around her, never-ending possibilities.
Kelly, Ben, Mary, Rick, Gail and all of the Ricard and Wilk family members, we're all saddened by the loss of an awesome friend and extend our heart-felt sympathy and offer you our continued support. We hope that knowing her influence was far-reaching, will give you some peace and foster more remembrances of her through the lives that she touched. Taken from us all in her youth, we're still grateful to have had her brighten our lives with her smiles, twinkling eyes, and her mischievous teasing of young and old alike.
Kara, we grieve your passing but celebrate what knowing you & having you in our lives has given us. You have always been a genuinely honest person who still had that child-like innocence and vulnerability that warmed you to anyone you chose to know.
When next you raise a glass of Port, take a large sip in remembrance of Kara. We'll miss you dear friend, til we meet again! RIP Karoleena. Luv U...Chandra, Melanie, Shauna and Madison

This obituary is beautiful. We never got to know you well Kara, but Mary, Quinn & Ryan had become family friends of ours since 1993. We have met a few times, but we wish we could have gotten to know you better, by the sounds of it you were one amazing person. This world has suffered a great loss, but Heaven gained an angel.

May you find peace and may your soul be set free, as you watch over us all.

Our deepest sympathy and compassion to your family. Our hearts are reaching out for all of you in this time of need, and friends and family of Kara will be in our thought and prayers.

Goodbye, Kara. Such a loss. Such a reminder to just grab life and live it and seek happiness and quit fussing about small stupid things or past failures that can't be undone.
Kara had found such joy with Kelly, and then Ben, and them with her. We will remember her always, through them, and more.
