nee CARNEY
Molly slipped away peacefully on August 3, 2017 with her husband and her two sons by her side. She was the beloved wife of Charles Cook, mother of Digby (Elizabeth) and Radford (Martine), and the grandmother of Dylan, Robin, Esmé and the late Nathaniel.
Molly was born on May 5, 1930 in a small farm cottage in Derbyshire, England, the youngest of six children. At the age of 16 she became an apprentice hairdresser and within a few years opened her own salon in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire. That is where she met Charles and their 65 year journey together began.
It was a journey that brought them to Canada in 1957. Her first job in the new country was picking peaches in the orchards of Niagara. She went on to work at Eaton’s and in the library at U.of T’s Victoria College. Most memorably she was the “Camp Mother” at Camp Sharbot where she and Charles spent over a dozen happy summers.
Molly was known to one and all for her kindness and her great sense of fun. She was usually the first to suggest throwing a party or heading out for an adventurous outing. Molly was also a master cook who shared her talents with those lucky enough to sit at her table.
In keeping with her sense of fun and to honour her last wishes a wake will be held in her honour this autumn. There will also be a memorial for Molly on Sunday August 13th at 2 pm in the Chapel of Wellesley Central Place, 160 Wellesley Street East.
In lieu of flowers you may consider a donation in Molly’s name to the Rekai Center where she spent her last three years.
