Newman, Lawrence (Larry), 58, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Monday, November 21,2022 at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Predeceased by his mother M. Helena Newman of Moncton, NB. Survived by his loving sister Bernice Jones (Trevor) brother-in-law of Riverview, NB.
Larry was born and raised in Moncton, NB. He lived in Halifax, NS for years and then moved to Toronto to find his path. He worked as a short order cook at the sunset grill in the beaches and then on to other adventures. His final career path took him to the UofT Scarborough campus where he worked as a custodian and was also a true advocate for his fellow employees as shop steward.
Larry was a unique soul, intelligent, funny, and generous. Larry was a true artist on many levels. He won awards for his work and attended NSCAD in Halifax for a few years. He was a talented musician with a love of fender guitars. He wrote songs and played many times with bands and as a solo act. He loved to cook and fancied himself a culinary “artist” creating many delicious dishes.
Larry loved the ocean, especially the beaches, he loved to bike down to the beaches and in the parks and enjoyed photography and taking photos of things that were unique in nature. Larry had a way of story telling that many people envied, he would talk for hours on many subjects and enjoyed a good laugh. Larry had several lifelong friends that will miss his marathon chats.
In honour of Larry there will be a gathering of friends on Monday Nov 28th, 2022 from 6-9pm at the Artful Dodger on Isabella St in Toronto.
Interment will be held later at the family plot in Chapel Point cemetery in New Brunswick.
