On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Maria Aneziris passed away peacefully at the Hellenic Home for the Aged, where she was lovingly cared for and surrounded by family. She now reunites with her beloved husband, Charalambos.
Born in Leonidion, Arkadia, Greece, Maria was one of nine siblings and carried the traditions, religious conviction, strength, and spirit of her homeland with her throughout her life. In 1960, she and Charalambos married in Greece and soon after immigrated to Canada, first settling in Toronto and later moving to Montreal in search of community and connection. There, surrounded by family and friends, Maria found joy in the family gatherings, weddings, and baptisms that brought her back to the rhythms of home.
She eventually returned to Toronto, where she raised her three daughters—Matina (John), Anna, and Emily (Aris)—and built a home filled with warmth, tradition, and generosity. Her home was always an open door to newcomers and friends of her children and grandchildren. A devoted homemaker, Maria baked, cooked, and sewed with care. Her home was always a bastion of hospitality, filled with laughter, music, and the comforting aroma of her koulouria. A lover of music and dance, she was often the first on the dance floor and the last to leave—still dancing in her 80s. She managed her household with strength and resourcefulness, raising her family with love and purpose.
Maria will fondly be remembered by her children and grandchildren, Peter (Niki), Vivian (James), Zoe (Christos), James (Maria), Harry, and George; and her great-grandchildren Chrysi, Ioannis, Stamatina, and Pavlo.
A visitation for Maria will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 1141 St Clair Ave West, Toronto, ON M6E1B1. A funeral service will occur Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 11:00 AM at Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 136 Sorauren Ave, Toronto, ON. A burial will take place following the mass at Beechwood Cemetery, 7241 Jane St, Vaughan, ON.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Maria's memory can be made to the Hellenic Home.
