Maria Theresa Beaudan To eternity and beyond

Nurse extraordinaire Theresa Beaudan (née Cunanan) passed away on November 19, 2021, following a courageous battle with cervical cancer. She was 46 and her time came too early for someone who gave so much to her family, loved ones and the patients she cared for across the GTA and Canada’s aboriginal communities.

Theresa was born in the Philippines, daughter of Saturnino Cunanan and Teresita Mendoza. She single-handedly raised her brothers Michael, Ronaldo and Nino after losing her mom, while working full time and attending nursing school. She is survived by two amazing sons, Thomas and Threston, as well as her beautiful half-siblings, Sophia, Madelaine, Maryanne, John, Tara and Kayla.

Theresa was a life-long learner who earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University, an MBA from Walden University and a Master of Health Administration from George Washington University. Undaunted by her cancer diagnostic, she had recently embarked on a Nurse Practitioner degree with the University of Windsor. Her goal was to launch a telemedicine service for patients with chronic healthcare conditions.

After Theresa met Eric in 2010, her life took on a new dimension. They embarked on a whirlwind romance which culminated with a memorable wedding in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2013. She was loved dearly by her in-laws Colette and Jacques Beaudan, as well as sister-in-law Pascale and brother-in-law Patrick. Her imprint within the Beaudan family, while too short, will be felt forever.

Eric and Theresa traveled the world thirstily to satisfy their passion for adventure, history and the performing arts. She walked the streets of Paris as if she was born there, although her attempts at speaking French led to quizzical situations. Above all, Theresa loved to dance, sing karaoke with her family, and glide on her paddleboard above the pristine waters of the Bruce Peninsula. She enjoyed fitness and was an avid runner, yoga enthusiast and a budding tennis player.

Theresa was a towering personality in her family. She pushed each person she knew to work hard and pursue their dreams without holding back. Her passion for improving everything she touched – from Canada’s health care system to her terrace garden in the Distillery District – will be her enduring legacy.

Her husband and family wish to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff from Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto where she received outstanding care. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her name.

Public Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 AM to 4 pm at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne (South of Wellesley Street). Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday at 11 AM at St. Paul's Basilica ,83 Power St, Toronto, ON M5A 3A8, Canada

Please be prepared to show proof of Vaccination upon entering the Funeral Home. Masks must be worn.

Theresa was a phenomenal woman. I had the pleasure of working with her up north as well as at St. Joes and Humber River doing agency. She was a pleasure to work with and always poured her heart and soul into everything she did. She was one of those friends that you could go awhile without seeing but when you reconnected again it was like no time had passed. Her smile could light up a room and she knew how to make everyone around her feel welcome. The last time we flew home from the north together I sat beside her on the plane and we chatted about life and love and watched Old Guard. She was an inspirational woman and always made me strive to be a better person when I spent time with her. You’ll be missed dearly Theresa. Until we meet again❤️

I first met you in the halls of Humber College, where we attended nursing school. We shared a lot of fun and interesting days in those halls. As well as shared our most stressful ones during exam times. Those days will live steadfast in my memories of you. My your legacy live on and your soul rest peacefully in the arms of our saviour. Condolences to all family and friends of Theresa gone too soon but never forgotten.

I had the good fortune to meet Theresa through my husband, Rob, who works with Eric at Odgers Berndtson. Over the years, at the Firm’s annual International Partners Meetings, Theresa and I had the opportunity to accompany Eric and Rob to visit amazing global destinations and more importantly, to build lasting friendships with a wonderful group of women from North America and all over the world. Earlier this week, I reached out to this special group of women. They were both shocked and saddened to hear of Theresa’s passing but mostly felt so privileged to have had the opportunity to share in all the joy, love and laughter that was Theresa. I wanted to share some of the heartfelt messages that I received from these women and a picture of our last opportunity to be together - Rome 2019:

"I will always remember Theresa, she had such a spark for life and everything it had to offer. She shared many words of wisdom with me, I admired her dedication to Eric, her kids (who she spoke of with such pride) and her work. She will be missed."

"Theresa was such a force of nature and a joy to be with!"

"We have had so many beautiful, funny and unforgettable hours and days together, as I know all of us appreciated and enjoyed. Theresa was a big part of this, with her human-wise way to embrace and accommodate other people."

"Theresa was a real piece of life. We had so much fun together along with serious talks about everything. I will really miss her company when we meet next time."

"My abiding memories of Theresa are of a fun loving, energetic, professional woman with a great love of life and family. When we meet next, we should all raise a glass and toast Theresa."

Theresa, you will be in our hearts forever.

You were the only "sister" I knew, for I only have brothers. We learned, grew, and discovered our calling together, as nurses. Petfecting our craft and Promising to each other to help as many people as possible, while on this earth. I love you my sister. For we shall meet again ❤🙏🏽🕊

Theresa was passionate in anything she did or anybody she was with. She loved her family and close friends. I’ve known Theresa since we were teenagers and watch her blossom into the woman she is now. if you didn’t see Theresa for a while because of her busy lifestyle the next time you come up with her it’s like you didn’t miss a heartbeat.
Her presence will definitely be missed but not forgotten.

Until we meet again
