Dear Kathy, Susie, Jenny and Christine ,
You had an amazing mother. She was a woman ahead of her times, passionate in her love for her family, determined in the face of life’s challenges, and always, always immensely kind to and caring of others. I loved listening to her tales of her life as a little girl and her adventures in trying to thwart life’s many hardships. I wished I had the talent to make a movie of her life stories as she was so vivid in the telling of them. She was brave, determined, and fearless, both as a little girl and as an adult when she came to Canada. She remains a role model (to all of us) and you are all truly blessed to have had such a loving and inspirational woman in your lives. Her grandsons, Julian and Adam can look back and see the strong women in their family have a long lineage!!

I wish I had had a chance to keep that date with my Theia Marika for cooking lessons in Greek food! But I shall cherish her gorgeous smile, and the warmth and love she always extended to me. The last time I saw her she was exuding energy and vitality, as this lovely photo of her attests.

With big hugs and much love to all of you.

Dear Tzimika family,
Marika was such an impressive woman. We all marveled at how strong and independent she was, how she always seemed to know what to do and how to respond. Like so many women of her generation, she endured hardship and constantly gave of herself for the betterment of others. I was always impressed by her, by how she knew who she was and what she had to offer; and by her many skills, especially her excellent cooking! I feel much enriched for having known her, and am thankful for all the kindness she showed me throughout my life.

All of this is hollow comfort at this time, I know. But please take some solace in knowing how much Marika touched all of us, even when she didn't know she was doing so. I'm sure she's in the Good Place, because if anyone deserves the VIP entrance, she does. Much love.

Marika's warmth, kindness, and generosity were always evident when I saw her. She always made you feel so welcome in her home and you could never leave without being fed the most delicious home-made meals! Those wonderful treats she made so skillfully at Easter were divine!

For someone in her 80s, Marika's energy never failed to impress me. She loved to walk and I was amazed that she could so easily walk from her home to my parents' house to shop on the Danforth-- no easy feat given her age! With her lovely smile and gentle humour, Marika would always try to convince my mother to go on walks with her when she visited (alas, she never succeeded!).

We were so lucky to be able to have Marika visit for New Year's Eve this past year.
My deepest sympathies to Kathy, Jenny, Suzy, Christine, and your families-- your mother was an incredibly sweet and loving person and she will be missed by so many who had the good fortune to know her.
Sending you much love always,
