Marion was a beautiful soul with a tremendous gift for making other welcome and doing so with amazing food and good company. Food as an art form, bringing people together, nourishing the body and the soul. I was lucky enough to experience the gift of hospitality at John and Marion's home and it was a joy, a unique and very special experience of blessing.

So many people have already said this, but, John, you and Marion were and are such an amazingly loving and generous couple, who have nurtured so many Christian artists and intellectuals. I'll never forget the joy and encouragement you brought to my life as I was trying to start writing. 

I know you'll be together with Marion again in heaven, but while you grieve her loss, I hope the millions of wonderful memories of your life together flood into your heart and bring you joy in the midst of sorrow.

I have so many fond memories of Mrs Franklin, a woman who always welcomed me into her home. Her smile was brightly contagious. I remember watching and listening to them, John and Marion, as they laughed and shared reading times together. My memory of their house was of tea, and the odd baked goods. They, she, introduced me to a world of forgiveness, kindness and loved Jesus as I do now. She mentored me from a far, not knowing the impact she had on my life. Marion was a beautiful soul, I only met her briefly and saw how much light and kindness she shared with so many people. Condolences to the family and all who she has touched.

Dear John,
I want you to know how highly I thought of Marion. I was honoured to call her my friend. She was truly an amazing woman and a true helpmeet for you! I am sure you are missing her every day as I am missing Bruce. They leave a huge gaping hole in our lives. But there are wonderful memories as well and we know how much better off they both are now with the Lord “which is far better” truly!

Bev and I first met Marion and John in 1978. Marion's warmth, enthusiasm, and creativity impacted us then, and these qualities have endured through the years. Our daughter still has books that Marion selected carefully and thoughtfully. We trust God to give John good grief and enduring memories in these days of loss.

This is a massive loss to me, my family and my community. Marion was a mentor, an inspiration, and an example, but more than anything else, she was a good friend. She wil be sorely missed.

I only knew Marion briefly but I could tell she was a kind and loving soul. A strong woman with an amazing strong and loving family.   She will be greatly missed and always remembered.  I know she will be watching her family from above.
