Mary was born at the family home on Dovercourt Road in Toronto to Margaret (MacAvelia) and William Burnie. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bill and his wife Mary and her five sisters: Rita, Dr. Ruth Burnie-Smyth (David), Audrey (Joe) Patynko, Helen and Teresa. She is survived by her niece Margaret-Ann and nephew Bill and his wife Maria and their family; son Michael, daughter Christine (Mario) and their son Ezra.
She had been retired from the laboratory at St Joseph’s Hospital for many years.
Mary was a devout, life-long Catholic who generously cared for the vulnerable. Dearest to her heart was the pro-life cause. Along with her sisters Rita and Helen, Mary devoted many hours praying, writing, and advocating on behalf of the unborn. She was an inspiration to many.
The family would like to thank Linda Gibbons for her devoted care and friendship in recent years. We would also like to thank the staff of the ICU at the Toronto Western Hospital for their excellent care of Mary. Donations to Campaign Life Coalition, 157 Catharine St. N., 2nd Fl Hamilton, ON L8L 4S4 would be appreciated.
