Mary Theresa MacDougall passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on the evening of April 22, 2026, at the age of 64. Mary grew up and resided in Toronto, Ontario. The world will forever be changed by her absence.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Garnett Lewis. She was a fiercely loyal and protective mother to her six children: Edward (Tereasa), Michael (Holly), Kayla (Lawrence), Eric (Emma), Riley, and Serenity. She was an amazing grandmother to Adriana, Aurora, Mia, Tyvaun, Garnett, and Trevelle; and a loving, faithful sister to Lawrence, Katherine, Michael, Vince, Jennifer, Barbara, and her late brother, Thomas.
Mary was born in Toronto on November 11, 1961, the youngest daughter of the late Shirley and Edward MacDougall.
If you knew Mary, you’d find her spending time with her children, running errands, or playing with her grandchildren at the park. You’d often find her with a coffee in hand, looking for ways to assist her community. Mary was the definition of selfless, honest, and giving; she quietly helped every person she crossed paths with. She was the type of woman who would give and give and never ask for anything in return.
Mary took pride in not only being the very best mother, but an astounding grandmother to her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She spent the majority of her final years making memories with her grandsons. While Mary worked with many charities over the years, she truly loved working with the Salvation Army at Christmas, helping families in need. If Mary had it and you needed it, she would provide it, even if it meant she went without. She became the "spare mom" to anyone who needed a loving presence, treating everyone as her own and welcoming them into her home with open arms.
Despite battling and beating two types of cancer and other health complications, Mary maintained a contagiously upbeat attitude. You would never have known the physical toll she faced because she walked with strength and radiated peace. She was an amazing woman, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. If you were blessed to have met Mary in her lifetime, you are forever the better for it.
Please join her family as we gather respectfully to send an amazing woman to her hereafter. Funeral arrangements are as follows Visitation will be held at Giffen-Mack & Trull Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON, M4C1L3, CA, on April 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
