Mary McCrossan (nee Kerr) passed away peacefully at the age of 84 with her daughter’s by her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Cecil. She will be greatly missed by her children, Nancy (Craig) and Wendy (Douglas), her sister Joan (Steve), her brother Alexander (Sandie) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her sister Ann. Mary didn’t have any grandchildren but she loved all her grand dogs very much.
Mary was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to Canada with her family at the age of 11. She finished school at the age of 16 and went out to work. She met her husband Cecil at 16 and at the age of 18, they were married in 1958. After the twins were born, Mary stayed home until the girls were in public school and then went to work in the educational system (schools). Mary loved Canada so much that she made it official by getting her Canadian Citizenship.
Scarborough Golf Club was always a place where people could drop in for a cup of tea , a biscuit and some good laughs. Mary had a great sense of humour, her faith was very important to her, as well as family. Faith & Family was everything!! Most family & friends called her May.
Every New Year’s Eve everyone would come to the house for a big party celebration, and at the end of the evening, there would be a big sing-a-long. Mary & Cecil would sing together while he played the guitar and harmonizing. Music was always a big part of the McCrossan household. Mary belonged to Gilbert & Sullivan theatre group and later on, the Sweet Adelines with her girls.
As Mary’s health declined , she came to live in Minesing where her daughter’s looked after her. Mary spent time at Hospice Simcoe before being discharged to come back home to Minesing.
We would like to thank everyone at hospice Simcoe for the wonderful care they gave mom during her stay there, and visiting family & friends as well.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Hospice Simcoe would be appreciated by her family.
