Michael Stephen James Browne was born on July 6, 1975 in Scarborough. He leaves behind his wife Twinkle of over 20 years, his son Tristan, and his daughter Gaia. Michael was the oldest of the 5 Browne boys and was predeceased by his younger brother Richie in 2020. He leaves behind his mom Wendy, stepdad John and his brothers Damon, Waymon and Marc-Sean. He also leaves behind eight nieces and nephews who adored him.
When younger, he acquired the name “Psycho Michael” because of his intensity while playing basketball. He also wrote poetry and would frame and give them to me for Mother’s Day. Michael was very creative. He started drawing comic characters and this continued throughout his life. When he had his children, many times he would create their costumes rather than buying them from the store. His costumes always ended up being magical and Tristan and Gaia wore them proudly. Mike was an avid reader. He especially enjoyed the fantasy novels which he got me into. Mike loved Marvel and DC comic books and characters as well. When he had some spare pocket change, he would go to the book exchange on McCowan to buy a book. He tried to instill the love of books into Tristan. In his teens, Michael was known as “The Sarge” because as the oldest, he would look after his little brothers if I needed to go out by making meals and making them behave. Mike will always be remembered for his huge, toothy smile. It was infectious as was his laugh.
Michael was the “King of the Dollar Store”, not because he was cheap, but he knew how to find good deals and stretch his money. He was the best person to shop for because he appreciated the thought and not just the gift itself. Michael was all about friends and family and would do whatever he could to help any time he was needed. Mike was a devoted and loving father always making sure his children were taken care of and happy. Michael was an awesome and creative chef and could whip up imaginative meals from whatever was in the fridge or cupboard. He will be remembered for his pulled pork, which was a staple on “Two-Four day” at the cottage in Campbellford, Ontario. Mike was first invited to the cottage by his friend, Ryan, many years ago. About twelve years ago, he took his mom and rented a cottage. Ever since, it has become a yearly tradition that takes place in the second week of July at the Percy Boom cottages.
Michael not only enjoyed a fire, but he enjoyed a BIG fire. He loved building fires in the backyard fire pit. He would invite a few friends over to sit and have a few drinks and talk or just sit by himself contemplating life or where he could find his next load of wood. Even when the fire department showed up three times because they were called by a neighbour, the fires continued and got even bigger. He was advised to keep a grate by pit with some food nearby because then he could say he was cooking. So that’s what he did as cooking was the only legitimate reason for lighting a fire in Scarborough.
Michael tried hard to keep the family connected, often planning Sunday dinners and barbeques. He loved BBQ sauces, buying any and every type he could get his hands on and often mixing his own concoctions. Mike liked spending time with his mom. Dressing alike on Halloween, shopping at Sal’s and bargain hunting.
Michael’s family was his pride and joy. Twinkle, Tristan and Gaia were his world and he would have spent every last minute with them if he could have. They enjoyed weekend adventures and found the fun in just about anything. He was a proud father and beamed when he talked about his children at any given moment. Michael may not have been the wealthiest of men, but he was rich in heart and always found ways to take care of those he loved and cared about. Until we meet again, Number 1. Rest in peace, Brownie.
Love, Mom
