Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel
Michael Kazumi Hagino passed away on October 23, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on August 19, 1954, he was a resident of Toronto, Ontario.
To those who knew Mike during his prime, he was a kind and gentle soul with a sharp wit, and a great sense of humour. One could also say that he was something a “Renaissance Man”. A dentist by vocation, Mike was good at just about everything he put his mind to: classical and rock guitar, music connoisseur, cook and foodie, intrepid traveller, woodworking, carpentry, fixing stuff, navigating technology, photography, drawing, and an ability to get along with pretty much everybody.
During Mike’s last 12 years, however, his body was ravaged by Diabetes (leading to blindness and kidney failure), and a rare type of fungal pneumonia (Blastomycosis) which he likely contracted while serving during one of his many 2-week stints as a dentist to the Indigenous reserves in northern Ontario. Against all odds, he survived the Blastomycosis, but it left him with a lot of scar tissue in his lungs and therefore, diminished lung function. Ultimately, the combined effect of all these problems lead to heart failure and major cognitive decline during 2025 —in fact, it was looking unlikely that he would even reach his 71st year in August 2025. But he did. He was a fighter, and uncomplainingly so.
After coming home from his last gruelling dialysis session on October 22, 2025, Mike peacefully passed away in his sleep during the early morning hours of October 23, 2025.
Mike is predeceased by his parents Barbara and Minoru Hagino, and is survived by his wife Carol Hagino, sister and brother-in-law Sherry and Wayne Schnarr, his step-nephew Graeme Schnarr, sister-in-law Linda Constable, niece and nephew Alannah and Austin Constable, as well as numerous cousins and aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, St. Michaels Hospital, and/or the CNIB would have been particularly meaningful to Mike.
