In the early years, Pauline’s family lived in one household with her uncle’s family. Paulina grew up with three cousins Alda, Ana Maria and Fran. Paulina, Fran and Alison were all close in age, and inseparable growing up. Those years were the most memorable and cherished for Pauline and she often reminisced about the mischievous ways of our childhood. In Pauline’s teenage years she and her sister Alison and cousin Fran attended the free concerts at City Hall, played many pranks and laughed so much that they would often cry. They would order pizza for the next-door neighbor and hide behind the curtains and wait for everything to unfold. They laughed to tears at their neighbors’ reaction to the pizza that he did not order.
Pauline, Alison, and Fran referred to themselves as the Charlies Angels or sometimes the Three Stooges. They pretended they were in a rock band. Alison was the singer and Fran was the musician on keyboard and Pauline was “Coyote” the photographer.
On one of the trips to the Canadian National Exhibition they got caught in the rain. They ran home all soaking wet and laughing all the way. Those were their innocent years cherished and etched in their hearts. Free from cell phones, internet, and social media they always created their own fun. These carefree innocent days free from worry, pain and sorrow were the most precious days they shared as cousins.
In Pauline’s early thirties she met her husband Gilbert Pereira at a bowling hall. Little did they know, this would be the start of 35 years together. Gilbert is Pauline’s true soul mate sent from God. Gilbert was everything to Pauline and Pauline was everything to Gilbert. Rarely, would there be a time where you would find one without the other close by. Truly inseparable! Gilbert cherished Pauline and would always strive to bring her joy and a smile to her face. He often would dance around and sing for her, if there was anything that would make her smile, he was on it! It gave him great joy to see her happy and her happiness was so tied to his. Gilbert always supported Pauline and was her strength when she was at her weakest. He was her support, he was her peace, and he was the reason she fought so hard to stay with us. The love that they have for each other is so pure, so real, and beautiful. To Gilbert, thank you for loving her and being her sunshine and her happiness.
Pauline was quite content with a small circle of friends and family who she kept close to her heart. She was very generous, kind, loyal, strong, and extremely brave. She never asked anyone for anything and never complained about her suffering which she did in silence with Gilbert. Pauline loved bright colors, glitter, colorful sunglasses and her favorite colour was pink. Her favorite artist was Elton John, and she adored her retro music. Pauline was fascinated with Aurora Borealis. She was ushered into heaven for the most beautiful views. There will be so many things that remind us of Pauline. Most of them will be bright, flashy, sequined, fun, and beautiful.
Pauline will be gravely missed by her 92-year-old mother, sister, husband Gilbert, countless nieces and nephews, and the rest of the extended family.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to all of those who have supported us during this time of great loss. Thank you for all the kind words you expressed for Pauline. May God bless you all.
