He will be dearly missed by longtime friend Richard Gravett, his Leslieville and Riverdale neighbours and friends and relatives around the world.
As a young man, Peter served with the Royal Netherlands Navy and spent several years in the South Pacific. After his naval tour, Peter worked on ocean liners and eventually emigrated to Canada on the S.S. Maasdam in 1964.
Peter switched careers from maritime to administrative and spent many years working in credit management with Searle Canada in Hamilton and Delcan International in Toronto before retiring in 2004.
Always active in his community, Peter earned the nickname “Mr. Leslieville” after working tirelessly throughout his retirement to help improve the quality of life for everyone in his neighbourhood. Working with local businesses and rallying residents and government officials, Peter helped organize and create new gardens and street planters and advocated for Leslieville street signs which defined and ushered in a new era of the historic neighbourhood.
Toronto has lost a proud neighbour and a true gentleman. Peter will be missed by everyone who knew him.
