I am Gerry the last of your Robinson Girls babysitters. I am so sorry for your loss. Your Dad as well as your Mom were such good people. Happy, smiling and laughing are some of the fond memories I have of your parents. They were different thinkers in their day. I can still remember the big green row boat that sat in your dinning room as a play area for you three. They also thought if you stayed up as late as they did then you would sleep in in the morning with them. This meant sometimes I fell asleep before you did. I remember your Mom wearing a bandana around her face when anyone was sick in the house to keep from spreading germs.....she was ahead of her time on that too. They were both outgoing social couple with such a love for life. I am happy to have had them in my life and share in your sadness with your Dad's passing. I am sorry that due to surgery and illness I was not able to attend the service for your Father. God bless all of you and your families. Take care.

At Christmas I got to see the wonderful silk screen Christmas art that your Dad use to make. First as it was laid out to dry all over the first floor of the house. One Christmas the picture was my cat pocking at a Christmas ornament on the tree, what a treat was that. They were an outgoing social couple with such a love for life and each other. I am happy to have had them in my life and share in your sadness with your Dad's passing. God bless.

Uncle Philip shared his light and love with everyone who was fortunate to know him. His kindness, generosity, and inspiration made a difference in this world and will never be forgotten. Even though we all lived thousands of miles away, he made an effort to keep in touch and sent wonderful letters and beautiful handmade cards which will be forever cherished. We are deeply saddened by his passing and our thoughts & prayers are with the Quan family. Unfortunately, we were not able to say goodbye but he will continue to live on in our hearts. May he rest in Peace – we will honor him and Auntie Rose together, especially on this day (March 17th). Much love and blessings… xoxo, The Lee family

Dear Donald, Carolyn, & Brian,
When I was living in NYC, I knew that your mom, Rose (Lee) was dating a Canadian boy.  How exciting it was when she did marry your dad, Phil Quan in April l958.  It was a fairytale story in itself, & the Prince Phil did carry off our Princess Rose to live in Canada.  (We who lived in the States had always regarded anything north of the border as God's country.)

How ironic that I, too, became smitten by a Canadian guy, & became Mrs. Henry Chu the following year.  Lucky for me, as now I am living in God's country myself.

The rest is history.  Your mom & dad, Rose/Phil had 3 kids & we had 4.  Our lives entwined with all 7 kids attending Chinese School on Fridays after regular English school. Your mom was also the school's coordinator.  The kids all belonged to the MSYG & attended many activities together, especially all the annual summer camping trips with their Youth Group leader/advisor, Peter Lee King.

When you, (Donald) had play dates with our son, I remembered you playing endlessly on the piano.  I couldn't believe that I would have to put a gun to our Donald to spend l5" on the bench, but who would have known that you were a future Mozart in the making.  We're happy that now you are making a lot of happy music for Lisa, your two daughters, & of course, for the world.

Happy memories are many & we truly treasure all the memorable times we spent together with your family.  We want you to know that we loved your parents & regarded them with highest esteem.  Our deepest condolences to you & your young families.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of your beloved father. You are in our thoughts during this sad time and our hearts reach out to you all.

I am so very sorry to learn that Phil has passed;  my sincere condolences to Brian, Donald, Carolyn and all the family.   He was a gentle, kind,and caring man who spoke lovingly of his family all the years I knew him throughout our many CBC years together.   I have many fond memories of Phil and Rose at the Montreal Olympics in 1976; Phil working on graphics for the next day's shows while Rose and I chatted next door.   He will be happy to be with her again.   We shared many lunches over those years with the bill paying always be a struggle;   I won once by stuffing bills into his jacket pocket on the back of the chair while he was talking to the waiter;  another time, I arrived early at the restaurant, on Spadina of course, and tried to give the waiter my credit card, only to find that Phil had anticipated and forestalled that move.   He was a lovely, generous man and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.   I feel blessed that I have a large collection of his artwork...prints and cards...which decorate my home here on Vancouver Island...a wonderful memory of a "gentle man".   Rest in Peace, Phil.

MISTER QUAN, I thank you for opening your home and especially your heart to me. I know that today I'm a better person (and father) having received your gracious deeds and observing your jolly demeanor, thank you! You are loved and dearly missed. —I deeply regret that I am not able to be at your services in person to offer you a last kowtow of respect and gratitude. 

To Donald, Lisa and Keira & Krysten, Carolyn, Brian, Lynn and Brendan & Jason, my deepest condolences. I know your hearts ache, but rest assured that there is now another angel watching over us. And the next time we hear thunder, it just Mr. Quan rolling strikes.

It was many years ago that we met Phil at the Chinese Canadian Association (CCA) meetings, which was a cohesive force in bringing together the young Chinese population to enjoy like interests.  One of those events was an summer camp held in Lake Couchiching each year, and, where he met Rose and the rest is history.  His artistic qualities were recognized by many and we couldn't wait to receive his yearly Christmas card as they were so different and unique.  Condolences to all the family.

I have wonderful memories of Phillip.  He was a caring, kind and gentle soul. He used to make meals for Donald and I while we worked on musical projects and leave them on the porch, never waiting around for a thank you.  I loved your parents, Donald.  Beautiful people with great humor.

I met Phillip in his later years but he was always full of smiles and caring thoughts. He is, and will be missed.

Phil and I often worked together at the CBC for the 23 years I photographs and animated artwork there. He was a respectful, admirable and dear colleague
who I will always hold in the greatest esteem and whose friendship I cherished.

I lived at 108 Greenwood and had the pleasure of babysitting for Phil and Rose.  Your parents were delightful and added a colourful flare to the neighbourhood.  My three boys thoroughly enjoyed going on a sight seeing trip through Chinatown with Phil.

Back in those early years, CBC Graphics was a wonderful creative place to work. We even had a hockey team and 
played against CHUM radio, CBC 
engineering and CBC sports. Some of our 
players were talented and some not so talented. Phil  was our mainstay and our goalie. He kept us in the game. He brought people together with design projects, wonderful luncheons in Chinatown, special homemade Christmas cards, always with a sense of humour. 
I will miss my old friend.

Gone too soon. I was a neighbour of Phil on Dundas street in the old part of Chinatown. I'll always remember his good nature and friendly smile.

I lived up the street at 108 Greenwood until I married in 1968. Your dad would bring fried egg noodles to my mom and dad, Pearl and Bob Robinson, It was our first experience with Chinese food. I have many fond memories babysitting at your house. Your dad would walk me home (3 doors up) to make sure I got home safely. When I married he took pictures and made an album. The front cover was a piece of the yellow floral fabric from the Bridesmaids dresses.I still treasure that small album and think of how kind and creative your dad was.
Take care of each other during this difficult time.

Ahh! the memories the name of "the Quans" brings back. Phil and Rose brought a touch of class to Greenwood and we were lucky enough to be included, children's parties, visiting the garbage incinerator, helping at Hawaaian shows, Phil's amazing art on cards and so much more. Our entire family is indeed blessed to have the Quans as our friends and neighbours. May these happy memories and the knowledge of how much your parents were loved and respected, get you all through these diffcult days.

This is not a time for sadness but rather one for sharing those special memories. Mr. Quan always had a smile on his face, and a fondness for sweets!  I remember well the day he came to my door to bring me some baked goods and I reminded him they weren't on his diet, and he remarked with a straight face that he didn't eat any, but the powdered sugar on his lips told a different story!  Rest in peace dear Mr. Quan, and know you have left your family in good hands.

Phil was a terrific man full of energy and artistic creation. I was very fortunate to work with Phil at CBC where he took me in as a young designer and showed me the ropes. He showed me exactly how to do many kinds of graphics artistically and efficiently. He always had good humour and loved taking a crowd of CBC folks to Chinatown for dim sum lunches. He always ordered for everyone because he knew what was good to eat. He worked like crazy, plowing through so many jobs. As much as he enjoyed work, which is where I knew him, the centre of his life was his family. He enjoyed talking about whatever they were up to with great pride and love. I worked with Phil through the 1980s and 1990s and was always happy to see him motoring away from one job to another, without taking time to complain about his heavy load. I also enjoyed his stories of his youth, playing goal for an all Chinese touring hockey team. I will always think of Phil Quan fondly and I'm sorry for the deep loss his family must feel at this time.

Carolyn, Donald and Brian, I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. He was a very kind, fun and interesting man. Many fond memories of your family at your home on Greenwood. My condolences to all. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. I have some very special memories of time spent with Uncle Phil, Auntie Rose, Donald, Carolyn, and Brian. Whether we were in Toronto or the SF Bay Area, or cruising down the east coast crammed into a Tilden van, or attending the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, we always had a ball. He loved to laugh and he enjoyed stuffing us all with good food (especially late at night). I will always remember him fondly. My family's thoughts and prayers are with him, his children, and his grandchildren.

Brian, we are sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Maria, the boys and I are thinking of you, Lynn, Brendan and Jason.
