I have known Bob  for about 40 years. He has been a part of the fabric of my life. I will certainly miss him, his art, salads, yum foo, and his dry wit. My condolences to his family. Wherever you are Bob, I hope it's all good. Love Wendy

Sadly, the time has come to bid farewell to friend and neighbour, Bob Fraser. 
Bobby was a gentle soul and talented artist. 
The Toronto native enlisted with the legendary 48th Highlanders at the age of 18 and after returning from serving in WWII graduated from the Ontario College of Art.
Overseas he saw combat - advancing against the "Hitler Line" through Italy in 1944. He was also part of the Canadian forces to liberate Holland in 1945.
He lived for over 90 years in the same house in Toronto's Beach community and two years ago had a local lane named after him.
He was living, breathing history for our kids to learn and appreciate the sacrifices that were made by so many so we could have the lives we do.
As such, Bobby was delighted to be a guest of honour at school assemblies for Remembrance Day ceremonies. 
When walking into a restaurant for lunch wearing his full 48th Highlanders regalia he would receive a warm round of applause - and humbly acknowledge the show of respect and appreciation. 
He was proud of his service. We were proud to know him - and thanked him every year for his contributions for this country.
Four months ago he collapsed on his front porch. Paramedics tried for 20 minutes to get a pulse. And, much to everyone's amazement, they did. The Nazis couldn't take him out so a little thing like heart-stoppage wasn't going to finish off this old soldier that easily.
Bob made a rapid and seemingly miraculous recovery - moving from East General to Bridgepoint for rehabilitation and eventually to Sunnybrook Hospital's Veteran's Wing.
But alas - just 2 months shy of his 93rd birthday - Bob's time here ended yesterday. When I visited him 2 weeks ago he was still sketching. Soldiers. The war became a lasting part of him. But it's truly peace time now.
Thanks again for your service, Bobby. And your friendship. 
I can guarantee your next fish & chips will be heavenly.

Sending our heartfelt condolences to Bob's family and friends. He was a good friend and neighbor and will be missed by his 'Silver Birch family'. Our children (and many in the neighbourhood), grew up knowing that Bob fought in WW11 and it was our kids Remembrance Day tradition to go knock on his door, shake his hand, and thank him for what he'd done for all of us. He was always very gracious and sweet to the boys but would always tell me after that he'd done nothing, really...He always felt that because he'd not given his life like so many others he fought with, that he hadn't really done anything. We felt differently.
I always enjoyed visits with Bob and his terrific memory of all things to do with the Beaches. He could recall all his old neighbours, their names and what the area was like years ago. His paintings were his pride and joy and he loved getting the chance to show them and any new projects. 
Bob was one of a kind and I felt like my life was enriched simply from knowing him the few years that I did. He was feisty, independent, and had a great sense of humor- all of which I will miss.
Rest in peace, dear Bob- I know you were looking forward to the rest.

Seeing Bob's obituary in the London Free Press this morning has brought back many many memories of the Toronto Scottish.
Both my mother, Bette, and father continued their association with the Toronto Scots until they couldn't any longer. Many of the group trips to Europe Dieppe, Holland, France, and Belgium were some of the biggest highlights of their lives.

 I was a child and spent many happy hours at the armories. My father is Henry Motton Hank to his friends of the Toronto Scottish. 

I know Bob will be missed because I know when my father goes he will be missed very much.  He is 96 years old and in the Veterans Unit at Parkwood Hospital here in London.

I am sure you cherished all the precious moments that you had with Bob as as we do with my father.  These moments will never be forgotten.
