In the 1970's, he built his own residential solar hot water system that supplied the family's needs. Bob was a WWII radio officer in the Canadian Merchant Navy and worked the rest of his life in the electronics field. Bob recently mused, "I've passed my best before date." A truce conservationist, he lived Thoreau's saying that, "A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone."
