Roberto Domenico Battistella

Having lived most of his life in Ottawa, Roberto lived with a quiet wisdom, always searching for deeper understanding and embracing life with a rare sincerity. His profound connection to the human condition was reflected in everything he did, from his thought-provoking art to the gentle way he interacted with those he loved. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Renata MacLeod, who will miss the shoulder to lean on that he has provided in his lifetime, and by his niece, Taviana MacLeod (Émile Côté), who is left with the inspiration of the fond memories of her Zio Robbie.

As an accomplished artist, poet, guitarist and photographer, Roberto’s work was characterized by a pursuit of truth and beauty. His photography captured moments of simplicity, while his abstract art conveyed the subtle truths of the world around us. His minimalist approach to both his art and life spoke to his belief in the beauty of simplicity and the importance of living with intention.

Roberto's passion extended beyond his creative endeavors to his profound commitment to the environment. A dedicated environmentalist, he advocated for sustainable living and cultivated a deep respect for the natural world. He believed in the power of mindfulness, from his love of cooking—preparing simple meals with care and precision—to his minimalist lifestyle, which was guided by a desire to live with less, yet experience more.

Roberto will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through art, music, plants and the countless moments of quiet, loving kindness he shared with those around him.

A Mass of Intention for Roberto will be offered at Holy Family Parish on Sunday, March 30th at 9:30AM, 1372 King St W, Toronto, ON M6K 1H3

A Memorial Gathering will be held in Ottawa at a later date.
