It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rocco Mastrangelo.

Rocco died peacefully in his 88th year on April 26, 2021. He was born in Anzano Di Puglia, Italy, on August 19, 1933. Rocco will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia, of 62 years, and his three children Licia (Dennis), Marco (Candice) and Rocco Jr. (Connie). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Virginia, Michael, Alexandra, Julia, Cristian and Gianluca. Entrepreneur, impresario, founder of many enterprises, including the iconic Café Diplomatico, Rocco was a true pillar of his community. With initial roots in Toronto’s Little Italy on College Street, Rocco was dedicated to promoting Italian cinema and music. Throughout his life Rocco shared his love and passion of Italian culture and thereby enriched multiculturalism in Canada. His family will always remember his immensely generous heart—always willing to help anyone in need—and his stern but steadfast love for them.

The Mastrangelo family greatly appreciates your gestures of sympathy and words of condolences at this very difficult time. Due to the current COVID -19 restrictions, the visitation and services will remain private. A live stream of the funeral mass and cemetery committal service will take place on Friday April 30, 2021 at 10:30am for family and friends wishing to view the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rocco may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Dear Virginia and Family,
I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of Rocco. It's been a long time since we've seen each other, but I will never forget your family. Rocco hired me at a young age at Cinema St. Clair and then brought me to College St. I enjoyed my time with you. It was a learning experience. Thanks to Rocco I made my career as a bookkeeper and it has served me well. Thank you for everything.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, may Rocco rest in peace.

Dear Virginia, Licia, Marco, Rocky & Family

It is with a heavy heart that we send you our deepest condolences. Rocco was a grand person… in character, in spirit and in heart! There are many many memories with our families and especially with Rocco and Pino. One of my fondest memories is Sandra’s baptism. Pino and I couldn’t haven chosen better Godparents for our daughter. It brings us some solace to know that he is in Heaven with Pino now. We regret not being able to say goodbye in person, but know that we were there in spirit mourning this great loss with you. Sending our love and prayers.

It has brought great sadness to hear of the passing of my Godfather, Rocco Mastrangelo. It has also brought back many fond memories of my childhood, including memories of my father, Pino, and their long standing friendship. Rocco was a man of integrity which was displayed in his work and influence in the Italian community. As my Godfather, he was a large presence in my childhood and a significant presence during my brothers teen years when working at the MVP video store. Rocco’s witty humour, charm and big heart will be greatly missed by my family. As he reunites with my Father somewhere up in heaven, I can guarantee there is a serious game of Briscola happening! Rest In Peace.

Thank you Rocco for all you have done for the community of Little Italy. Some of my foundest memories were spent on College street and on the patio at The Dip with my family and friends. . We were there for World Cup championships and we will be back for more in the near future. You were a true icon for the city of Toronto. Rest In Peace Rocco sr. My sincere condolences to your family. From Raffaele Torchia and my family.
