Rolf was born on June 12, 1931, in Cape Town, South Africa. He is the last of his siblings which ends an era. Predeceased by his father Erich, mother Emmy, sister Clara, brothers Georg and Hugo. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Pamela (Davidson), sons Graham, Roy and John, and daughter Claire.
Some of Rolf’s greatest memories are those of a wonderful childhood, the adventures of growing up in the small town of George in the Cape during WWII. The many hours spent with this father, Erich, and his dogs Rex and Binky. His father unfortunately passed away when Dad was only 12. Those years growing up in George were fondly remembered throughout his life.
In his younger years, he was an avid athlete, participating in swimming and water polo in the summer season, tennis in the winter.
Married to Pamela for 64 years with four children. Dad’s greatest pride was seeing his children grow up. Together as a family, we have shared a lifetime of fabulous memories. Great family holidays in South Africa to the seaside in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Tsitsikami, Kruger Game Park, Golden Gate.
In August 1976, Dad moved his whole family on a new adventure, to live in Toronto, Canada. Including our dog, Sandy, and the budgie, Polly. This provided us all with a better future and brighter opportunities in life. A pioneering move for which we are all grateful.
Rolf’s trade and working career were as a Precious Gem Setter, working in South Africa, Canada and Germany. In retirement for almost 30 years, gardening with mom at home was their passion. Their garden looked fantastic. The Oak trees added the atmosphere with the back yard being the place to relax under the grape vine. A long and healthy life allowed Dad to tend to his garden each summer, until he passed away.
Dad, you had the kindest heart. Thanks for all your sacrifices and always providing for your family. Love you Loads, always and will treasure our memories with you forever.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. For more information, please send an email to [email protected]
