Ronald passed away peacefully at Christie Gardens in Toronto, Ontario in his 98th year. Born in Preston, Lancashire, England, Ronald came to Vancouver at the age of seven, and left school in his mid-teens to help the family during the depression. Self-taught in music, he learned shorthand, typing and some Italian and German at night school, and began to write. Over the next seven decades, he published eleven books and pursued a remarkable career as a poet and creative writer in broadcast media and journalism. Survived by his loving wife Jean Elizabeth Hambleton (nee Ferguson); brother Arthur (Vale); children Gregory, Ian (Taida), Fergus (Victoria), Sarah (Denis) and Paul (Sarah); grandchildren Jennifer (David), Julia (David), Kirsten (Ryan), Daniel (Heidy), Graeme, Margaret, Alanna (Graham), Emily, Caitlin, Aman, and Ava; and great-grandchildren James, Jack, Erin, Marc, Neil and Anne. Predeceased by brothers Gordon, Jack, Leslie, and grandson David. He will be greatly missed.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to all his caregivers at Christie Gardens.
