Germany in 1946, she immigrated to Canada at age four and lived in Peterborough ON until
moving to Toronto to attend St. Michaels’s Nursing School. Rose met her husband John
(married 50 years in June) through her roommate and they settled in Toronto after marriage having
two children (Rhonda MacLaughlin and Kim MacLaughlin). Rose always put her family, friends,
and patients first. She was epitome of a caregiver; compassionate, empathetic, selfless,
nurturing…Rose was a true Nurse. She loved her career and worked every shift with
enthusiasm and a sense of humour that no one will ever forget. Her career spanned over 40
years ending in workplace incident that retired her earlier than she had planned. She worked at
Sick Kids, Scarborough General, Kennedy Lodge and Providence Villa. She spent her last days
being taken care of by colleagues on CP1 at Scarborough General, where she worked for many
years. She was a respected nurse, a great friend, a wonderful wife, a fantastic
mother/grandmother and a beautiful woman. She adored her family time and her two
grandchildren (Coti Rose MacLaughlin-Grant and Harley John MacLaughlin) were her pride and
joy. She will be missed on earth, but Heaven will have a nurse like no other. A sincere thank
you to the staff of CP1 at Scarborough General Hospital who cared for one of their own.
