Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep -- John Keats
Ruth Katherine Ledsham (nee James) was a beautiful woman both inside and out. She left us on August 24, 2021 and set off on her next journey. She was remarkably adventurous and made an indelible imprint on all she met.
Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on January 9, 1929, Ruth moved to Toronto in 1945 and met the love of her life, Raymond Arthur Ledsham (May 1990). They married in 1950. Ruth worked at CIBC until she became pregnant, which ended her career as at the time banks did not allow pregnant women to work. She moved forward building a home and family and raised three children with love, spirit and energy. Ruth was a committed volunteer and fundraiser and spent over 30 years working with the Red Feather in Montreal and then the Cancer Society and Heart Foundation in Ontario. She was an active member of the Knob Hill United church, where she taught Sunday school, led youth groups and sang in the choir. She was a member of the UCW for over 50 years. Ruth loved all things in nature. Her happiest days were spent in her garden in Scarborough. She and Dad (Raymond Arthur) were superb gardeners and left us with a bountiful garden of memories.
With her love for life, captivating smile and warm heart, friendships were innumerable and for a lifetime. Her longest lasting 76 years. She will be forever loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters Brenda, Evelyn (Don Vaillancourt) and Trudy (Steven Jacobs) and her beloved grandchildren Sam and Emma; her extensive Ledsham family and her innumerable friends.
Please consider donating to your favourite charity in her memory. She believed in giving and would be touched to know she encouraged more with her passing.
Visitation will be Thursday September 9 at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road Scarborough, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A service by invite only will be held in the Chapel on Friday September 10, 2021 at 10:30 am for friends and family. Private interment at Pine Hills Cemetery.
