It’s just not the same without you, Sam…

Mr. Barone. You left a so early you were not even at retirement age but you were a magnificent teacher and I learned a lot from you. I was saddened to hear of your passing really upset all of us from Bosco just so you know you’re never forgotten and it’s a tragedy to have lost you. Thank you for being a wonderful teacher and for making the subject so interesting I will never forget you.

Sam was my nextdoor neighbour for the last 10 years. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Every time we had a conversation or just said hi to each other, you felt better for the experience. We had great talks over the fence or in the driveway about simple (but important) things like the  Blue Jays and the Dodgers, snow, his Dad (whom he loved with incredible devotion). Sam was a strong man, with a wise, kind heart. I miss him and think of him every day.

It was an honour to have taught with him and subsequently to have become friends. 
We will think of him always when we ride our bikes out along the lakeshore, as he so often loved to do and we will assuredly raise many a glass going forward, to toast to Sam and his beautiful love for teaching, his students, friends and family. 

Sam was truly a kind soul who was taken ‘on eagles wings’ much too soon but he will continue to soar!

Sam’s warm smile and hearty laugher will definitely live on forever in our hearts. 
 

Sam was someone who we always looked forward to seeing during family gatherings. Whenever we were together we would have such interesting and deep conversations. He brought a wisdom and understanding to every conversation that was natural and unique. He had such a heart-warming laugh that I can hear it echo in my mind. 

Of all my fond memories of Sam at family events, I’ll never forget the time I ran into him late one night at DairyFreeze. I was with a group of my friends and he was with a group of his. It was such a lovely coincidence and I’ll forever cherish all the laughs we shared.  (Amanda)

Sam and his family have been friends of mine ever since I moved into the neighbourhood a few doors away from theirs thirty years ago. I was shocked to hear of his illness and hoped very much that he would pull through, but now am devastated by the news of his death. He was such a calm, courteous, friendly presence on our street and throughout the neighbourhood, always ready to stop whatever he was doing to have a good chat. I will miss him very much, and will always remember him.

We always felt very close to Sam. At family functions we especially enjoyed talking to him and his company. He was so easy to talk to and made you feel better. We always ended up laughing together.      

 As a teacher, Sam helped students acquire knowledge, competence and virtue. Those that knew Sam acquired all those things as well as an appreciation of friendship, caring and laughter. He radiated warmth and kindness and inspired his students and colleagues. He had class! 

We will miss him and he will be in our memories forever.

Sam Barone was a kind and gentle soul. A person who made you feel at ease. He always acknowledged you with a smile and wave of the hand.   Meticulous in his work. He was a teacher who dedicated his life to teaching young people. 
I am honoured to have known him. 
It is surreal to think that such a person is no longer with us. That something as sinister as Covid-19 has taken his life.  




As someone who visited Don Bosco on a weekly basis, I was always able to rely on Sam's friendly and welcoming presence.  He was this way for students, being accepting and nonjudgmental and guiding them through some of their most difficult times.

I see this as his legacy, with former students looking back on their high school years and remembering what was the best - and that was Mr. Barone.

Sam was an amazing teacher at Don Bosco high school, he taught me so much in his class and I took everything he taught me and used the knowledge to succeed in life . When Sam would walk into the classroom he would always bring up jokes from time to time overall he will be missed very much. I personally wish I can come see my teacher one more time and say goodbye my deepest condolences to the family Sam you will be missed dearly.

Sam always took the time to inquire and offer me advice as I began the teaching profession. He always spoke highly of his experiences and beamed with joy when talking about students and the art of teaching. I remember he even went out of his way to come visit me in the classroom, during one of my first contract positions. My sincerest condolences and prayers go to Teresa and Zio Giacomo.

Sam always had a way of making you feel comfortable no matter how much time passed since we last met. His warm, easygoing nature was always welcoming and he always showed genuine care and interest in what was going on in my life. Of course, it was always easy to talk to him as ‘teacher to teacher’ and we could go on and on while Teresa waited for our coversations to end (so that we could go out to a restaurant). I will forever remember Sam with fond memories that will make me smile and warm my heart. You were such a beautiful soul and I will miss you greatly. Rest in peace,Sam.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sam, years ago, thru my cousin Mike.  The gang would come down to visit my parents and always see the Detroit Lions play.  The football game was squeezed in between games of basement ping pong, and socializing, where we shared lots of laughs and shared plenty of stories.  Sam had such an easy going personality and his contagious smile lit up the room.  I’m glad we got to know him, and are very sorry to hear of his passing.  Every time we saw each other, even with the years passing on between each visit, within a few minutes of seeing each other, if felt like it was yesterday when we saw each other last.
He will be missed.
