STONE, Tammy Ellen (née Evans), of Toronto, Ontario died peacefully on April 26, 2026 at the age of 67 years, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the loving wife of David; dedicated mother of Peter and Elizabeth; adored sister of Sandy, Debbie, and Brenda; and loved by the many friends, neighbours, and church community whose lives she touched over the years. She will be deeply missed.
She was born in Guelph on January 15th, 1959 to George and Vera Evans, and moved with her family across the country to Alberta, where she completed high school and attended Red Deer College before transferring to the University of Alberta, graduating with a B.Ed. in 1982. After a stint teaching at the Elves Memorial Child Development Centre, she moved back to Ontario to be nearer her family. She held numerous positions, including teaching at Queensway, but finally found her niche teaching English as a Learned Language to hearing-impaired adults.
If there was one word to describe Tammy, it would be love. She loved God, her family, and her friends, neighbours, and church community. She loved animals – especially dogs, and being out in nature, whether camping and canoeing, walking the many trails and beaches of Toronto, or simply being out in her own garden. She loved reading – especially the Bible, singing – especially worship, spending time with others, and Scrabble – especially scoring 30 points with a single letter.
Tammy touched many lives with her compassion and kindness. She embodied the scripture that tells us: “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:9-18)
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Stone Church, 45 Davenport Road, Toronto ON, M5R 1H2 on Saturday 9th May, 2026, with visitation from 2:00 pm, a service at 3:00 pm, and a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to one of the many causes Tammy supported, such as: The Canadian Diabetes Association, The Canadian Council for the Blind, Yonge Street Mission, Toronto City Mission, Compassion Canada, or the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Michael Garron Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, and Toronto EMS for their compassionate care. A special thank-you goes out from Tammy’s family to the Stone Church family, and all our supportive friends and neighbours.
