Terry is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Gerard Hughes and Marjorie M. E. Hughes (née Clarke), and by his brother Dennis James Hughes.
Terry is survived by his companion Kelly McCray, his brothers Michael Hughes (Rosemary Attard) and Danny Hughes (Angie), and sisters Anne Shortell (Brad) and Clare Thompson (Andy Collins). Dear uncle to Elizabeth Hughes (Jeff), Jennifer Hughes and James Michael Hughes; James Daniel Hughes (Daniela) and Brianna Hughes; Theresa Shortell (Ricardo), Monica Shortell, Catherine, Emily, Allison, Julia and Fiona Shortell; and Adam Thompson. Terry had a large extended family across Canada and beyond, with many Clarke aunts & uncles, and over 40 first cousins.
Terry will be remembered with love and affection by his family and his many dear friends: whether from Emery C.I., the Finch Crock and Block, from his university days at Queen’s and U of T, and from over thirty years living in downtown Toronto. Terry was giving, kind, conscientious, and he loved to laugh.
Terry had a distinguished career as a General Manager in the fine dining industry in Toronto, leading well-known establishments such as Sassafraz, Blowfish, Marben and dining services at Ottawa’s National Gallery of Canada, to name a few. A talented musician, Terry loved playing his cello, piano and violin.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 29, 2019 at Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home & Chapel at 467 Sherbourne St, Toronto, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Terry was an active and engaged parishioner; his funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 520 Sherbourne St, Toronto, ON M4X 1K8. A reception will follow immediately after Mass in the parish hall.
