“There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.” ~Washington Irving
On August 12th, 2023, we lost a unique soul.
Terry David Kulczycky was born on September 28th, 1984, and passed away suddenly at the age of 38. He was the third of five siblings and was the loudest of them all! As a child, he was given the moniker "The Boy", which remained with him throughout his life. However, he grew to be far more than the boy. He was a son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and confidant, to name a few.
Terry was born at Centenary Hospital in Scarborough, graduated from St. Dominic Savio Elementary and Pope John Paul II Secondary Schools. He attended both Humber and George Brown Colleges. He studied culinary, nutrition, masonry and other subjects that piqued his interest at the time. He had many aspirations, but his greatest desire was to be able to be true to himself.
Terry was loud, boisterous and anything other than silent. But that was our Terry, and that is why he was and is still loved. He had an extremely fun spirited soul and engaged in many activities. If he could break a sweat, he was game! His personal favourites included hiking, volleyball, biking, and fishing, just like his father. His playful nature resulted in him challenging us for no reason other than his own self pleasure. He had a supernatural talent for making people smile, whether by irritating them, or saying the most random things just for a reaction.
“As long as you're having fun and still doing stuff, it doesn't matter what other people think.” ~ Nick Carter
He was a big kid at heart with a playful nature, his nieces and nephews adored him along with the children of his close friends. Terry’s antics were near legendary, and those who knew him have their own stories to tell. Each story would describe the sheer pleasure of his company, how good he made them feel, and how free they were to be themselves around him. He was a jester with a generous heart of gold, never hesitating and often going out of his way to help others, especially if the words “bet” or “food” were involved.
“It's a thrill to fulfill your own childhood dreams, but as you get older, you may find that enabling the dreams of others is even more fun.” ~ Randy Pausch
Terry was constantly looking to be himself, improve himself and make others proud, leading him on a personal journey toward becoming a version of himself he could love. The path was not straight or without setbacks, but it was a journey he needed to take. Recently, he found love and was making strides to improve his life and the lives of those around him.
“The issues we often run away from and refuse to address, are the very things that end up transforming our lives when we choose and commit to healing from buried emotional wounds.” ~ Kemi Sogunle
Terry was the type of person who said what he meant and meant what he said, and that once his mind was made up, there was little convincing him otherwise. He cared about people in the purest sense. He loved them for who they were and because he wished the best for them, without guile and without asking for anything in return. His laughter was unmistakable, his smile was contagious, his hugs were suffocating, his heart was huge and his manners were questionable. But his love was undeniable.
Terry is survived by his mother Laurine Didier and stepfather Alan Pritchard, siblings Natalie Didier and son Keian, Nicholas Didier (Vanessa Didier) and son Nolan, Terra Carty (Hanif Carty) and daughter Amelia, and Laurine Kulczycky (Leah Fildey).
