Thomas Keen son of Thomas John Keen and Gwendolyn Frances Florence Jones was born in Montreal, Quebec on January 14, 1925. Passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Scarborough, Ontario. Tom was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty, who passed away on February 6, 2012. He is also predeceased by his brother Robert Keen (Phyllis). Tom is survived by his sister Doris Facella (Frank), brother Donald Keen (Ann), and daughters Deb Smith (Bruce), Pam Steels (Greg) and Barb Wilkin (Rick). He was a caring grandfather to Graeme, Matthew, Shelley, Diane, Julie, Steve, Mitchell, Justin, Jennifer and great-granddaughter Alexa.
At age 18, Tom joined the R.C.A.F. and became a bomber pilot after extensive training but was not given the opportunity to travel overseas to fight in WWII given his age and the war ending. He had a long and productive career at the Continental Insurance Co. having worked there for 47 years before retiring in 1987. He was to become one of the first insurance professionals to attain his F.I.I.C. (Fellowship) designation through the Insurance Institute of Canada. In his earlier years, Tom played saxophone professionally on the weekends with his beloved Betty singing along. Retirement found Tom enjoying reading, gardening, music, and most importantly traveling great distances to visit his family. Betty, the love of his life and wife of 65 years, was his constant companion and they enjoyed a long life together.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012, 1 p.m. at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road, Scarborough. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service and a lunch will be served after the service.
