Thomas Guildstern Ullrich, born March 16, 1940, in Mount Pleasant, Western Australia, passed away Sunday night after a brief illness while rehabilitating at Michael Garron Hospital. He was 82. Tom did a bit of everything in his 82 years, starting off as an apprentice motor mechanic in Australia, picking tobacco in New Zealand, later construction for Wimpey in the GTA, working at Doctor’s hospital, and as a handyman all over, improving his own home, and those of his clients. He was a hard worker and a brilliant mind, able to talk deeply about nearly any subject, especially engineering, science, and history.
Tom is predeceased by his late wife, Marilyn Ullrich (née Patterson), and survived by his sons, Douglas and Richard Ullrich; daughter-in-law Brittan Ullrich; grandsons Thomas and Charlie Ullrich; brothers William and Harold Ullrich, and sister Diane Hogan, and their spouses; his Canadian sister and brother-in-law Barb and John Roberts; Canadian nephews Kevin and Yan Roberts; and Australian nieces and nephews, Toni, Kerri, Maree, Dane, Paul, Brett, Reece and Cher.
Tom will be interred at a small gathering at Nipissing Union Cemetery July 25th, and the family will hold a memorial and celebration of his life in Toronto for friends and family in August 2022 (more info to come).
