I am a descendant of the Colantonio family in France (I'm Vincent and Ilda's grand daughter, and I recently discovered Tonino’s memorial. 
Seeing his photos and reading Sergio’s words touched me deeply, as they echo the family stories I grew up with. 
I honor his memory and the legacy he left in Canada.

I still remember the evenings at the house enjoying a wonderful meal, great conversations, and trying to understand exactly what happened to the Maple Leafs. I miss your smile, your laugh, and your advice on how it was done back in the day. I am honoured to have known you and privileged to have memories. You will always be in our prayers.

The Bonello Family

A man,a husband and father.My father's legacy started when he was born in 1939, his real journey didn't start until he came to Toronto,Canada when he was 17 years of age. My father would tell us stories about he had to walk for miles to get to one job to the next. He had to struggle in knee high snow, go through mud slides, flooding basements and whatever else nature had to throw at him just to make money to pay for rent and to put food on the table. When he got married he had to live with his brother Mario and lived upstairs of his house. After about a year or so he had bought a house on 30 Glen Belle Crescent, there is where he had spent all of his life. My father worked in every climate condition you can think of whether he was freezing or hot just to pay for the mortgage and food. I was born on November 12 1965, 4 years later I had a baby brother who was born in April 22 1969. My brother and I remember the time when my father had extended the viranda in the front of the house and when he also did the addition in the back of the house. Too this day we still remember when our dad gave the home a brand new facelift changing the old yellowy bricks to the terra cotta color, boy what a job that was and how tired my dad was when he completed it. In 2003 our world was rattled when we found out that our father was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer in the bone marrow. For 8 years he suffered with pain in his legs, the first 4 years were a little better than the last 4 going in out of hospitals to get blood transfusions. In the last year it wasn't just blood transfusions he also needed to get a platelet transfusion as well. I remember my brother going crazy in out of doctor offices trying to do whatever he could to keep our father alive, he never missed an appointment with him. My brother made my job very easy, for I only had to take him to the hospital for blood transfusions and back home. Our uncle Mario also did whatever he could to take my father to the hospital and back. One day I got a call from my brother and he had told me that my father only had 3 months to live, because his body was refusing treatment of kimo. On May 20 our father had to be rushed to the hospital for a perforated bowel, he was released on Monday May 23. Our father was at home for almost 3 weeks when he suffered yet another set back, this time he developed a fever and once again he was rushed to the hospital. My brother and I knew he wouldn't be going home this time, our father fought hard for 8 years struggling with pain and family life at home. On June 15 2011 our father had died peacefully in the loving care of family and the staff of the Toronto General Hospital staff and support team whom all did what they could so that our dad could a quiet and peaceful rest for all eternity, this was the legacy of one Mr. Tonino Colantonio a legacy that will always carry on and will never be forgotten.
