February 20, 1925 – March 13, 2020
Verda Young – February 20, 1925 – March 13, 2020. Born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised in Vancouver, B.C. Died peacefully of Alzheimer's disease in Toronto.
Verda was a gentle soul with a boundless curiosity about everything from gardening to astrophysics to environmentalism. She will be dearly missed by Michael, her husband of 68 years. She also leaves her children, Cameron, Bryan, Diana and Nora, daughters-in-law Margaret and Rosanna, and grandchildren Jordan, Eva, and Ella. There will be a celebration of Verda’s life at a later date.
Verda’s family would like to thank the staff at Gibson Long Term Care Residence for their kind and attentive care.

While I never had the pleasure of personally meeting Mrs. Young, I certainly heard a lot about her from her daughter Nora. Nora's love for her mother was boundless. This is what I took away from our conversations: Her mother was smart as a whip (like Nora), could be quiet (like Nora), was interested in everything under the sun (like Nora), and her mother was the keenest of gardeners (like Nora would be if she was in Canada in the summer). As I said, I never knew Verda Young, but I feel as if I had, thanks to listening to so many stories from her devoted, youngest daughter. My heart goes out to the entire Young family.

Verda and my mother,Anne, shared many conversations as we all grew up.Indeed, the Barstow family from 62 years ago up to this present day have the "Verda Young never fail turkey recipe" . Every year at Christmas,Thanksgiving and Easter we prepare her never fail turkey recipe as originally given and we all give thanks for her having been in our lives. She will always be remembered and live in our hearts.
Much love to the Young Family
