Fr. William Lonc died on November 27th, 2014 at René Goupil House in Pickering Ontario. He was in the 85th year of life and had lived 60 years in religious life in the Society of Jesus. Bill was born in London, Ontario on May 5th, 1930, son of Gregory Lonc and Veronica Lewickie. He earned a doctorate from Saint Louis University in Physics (Ph.D.) and a degree in Philosophy (Ph.L.) in 1965. He was ordained a Jesuit priest on June 1st, 1968. Fr. Bill Lonc had for many years served as a professor of Physics at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, specialization: Astrophysics and Microwave Technology. Since his retirement, this Renaissance man worked assiduously in translating over a dozen French historical works by Lucien Campeau and others into English. In his final years he served as Chaplain to the Sisters of St. Joseph in Toronto. He will be missed by family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit on Monday, December 1st from 7-9 p.m. at the St. Ignatius Chapel, Manresa Spiritual Renewal Centre, Liverpool Rd. North, Pickering, ON. Prayer service to be held at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 o’clock on Tuesday, December 2nd at the St. Ignatius Chapel, Manresa Spiritual Renewal Centre, Liverpool Rd. North, Pickering, ON. Interment to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Jesuit Cemetery, 5420 Hwy 6, Guelph, ON.
