
Gabriel, Alfredo Andre a 36 year resident of the South Bay, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2001 in Redondo Beach at the age of 64. He is survived by his wife and loving partner of 32 years, Maria; son, Michael C. Gabriel of Lawndale, CA; daughter, Michelle A. Gabriel-Wallace of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Genet Wallace of Las Vegas, NV; grandson, Christopher M. Gabriel-Wallace of Las Vegas, NV; grandson, Michael C. Gabriel II of Santa Clarita, CA; grandson, Brandon Travis of Santa Clarita, CA; daughter-in-law, Christine Travis of Santa Clarita, CA; son-in-law, Clifford Travis of Santa Clarita, CA; brother, Manuel Gabriel of Palo Alto, CA; and sister-in-law, Maria of Palo Alto, CA.
Alfredo was Born in Brooklyn, New York. As a youngster and young man he won several dance and solo roller skating competitions. At 18 Alfredo joined and served in the United States Air Force. He held a bachelors and two masters degrees and worked as an engineer in the aerospace industry for over 40 years. In the 70's Alfredo raced NHRA stock and fuel funny cars. At this time he also took up learning to play classical flamenco guitar. While in the TRW Ski Club Alfredo won several downhill racing competitions and enjoyed teaching his wife and children to ski. Alfredo was the owner of the Kayak Store in Redondo Beach since 1995 and taught kayaking up until last summer with his wife and son on summer weekends. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He also was a member to the TRW Ski Club as well as the TRW, Hughes, and LA Airforce Base Volleyball Clubs, where he competed in A and B leagues up until 1998.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 22, 2001 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with Vigil Services beginning at 7:00 P.M at White & Day's Colonial Chapel, 901 W. Torrance Blvd. (at Prospect Avenue), Redondo Beach, CA. 90277. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 23, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church, 415 Vincent Street (at Pac. Coast Hwy.) in Redondo Beach. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, CA. En lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to St. James Catholic Church, 415 Vincent Street, Redondo Beach, CA, 90277. Please indicate to family if you will be able to attend the reception to be held at the St. James Hall (immediately adjacent to the church), following the burial.
